Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on November 16, 2015 Johnson C. Smith University is pleased to announce that the Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) has granted initial accreditation to the JCSU Master of Social Work program. The route to this accomplishment was led by President Ronald L. Carter; Dr. Helen T. Caldwell, dean of the College of Professional Studies; and Dr. Jeanne F. Cook, director of the MSW Program. “Our MSW faculty worked hard to develop a strong curriculum that addresses the needs of our communities and their residents for culturally competent social workers in all levels of social work practice,” said Dr. Cook. “I am proud of our team and our MSW students, and we are thankful for the support of President Carter, Dean Caldwell, and our colleagues at JCSU.” CSWE's Commission on Accreditation is responsible for developing accreditation standards that define competent preparation and ensuring that social work programs meet them. In accordance with the requirements of recognition, the CSWE Office of Social Work Accreditation’s multistep process involves program self-studies, site visits and reviews. “The CSWE’s stamp of approval on the JCSU MSW program speaks volumes about the quality of education; competitive curriculum development; sound administrative leadership and vision; and its true commitment to excellence,” Dean Caldwell said. ### About Johnson C.
