3 Career Opportunities That Marry The Love of Art and Technology
Posted By: Kara Masterson on February 03, 2020

The conflict between the creative side and the practical side is one that many people face. It seems like there is no way to indulge their artistic desires while still making use of technology skills. However, there are some careers out there that can allow you to do just that. If you need to scratch an itch on both the left and the right sides of your brain, consider these choices.

Graphic Design

Without turning your head, you can probably see two or three graphics right in front of you. It could be the logo on your monitor, the return address on an envelope, or a designer's emblem on your shoe. Whatever it is, it was probably created by someone who, like you, had a creative side and wanted to put it to use with technology.

Graphic design work has equal parts creativity in choosing what the graphic will look like and technology in making that idea a reality on a computer screen. With the right training, graphic design can mesh these two skills together beautifully.

Video Game Development

Chances are, you've spent some time playing video games. Everything from online multiplayer games to those contained in an app was built by people who wanted to use art and technology together.

Think through just a few seconds of sequence in a game you've played. The characters, settings, and even the sounds were all generated by some creative person using technology to turn a vision into a reality in a game. Many of them built those games on their own, using best practices crowdfunding to generate the revenue necessary to develop the game.

Creating Music

Not that long ago, the only way to create music was to invest in expensive recording gear to capture the sounds of expensive instruments that performers learned to play through expensive lessons. The cost of creating and releasing even one song was astronomical.

Music is nothing like that today. If your creativity leans toward melodies and beats, you can create music using technology without the expense and time it took to make music a generation ago. Computers can create the sounds and save them into recordings that you can layer and mix right on your laptop.

Creativity and technology are so different that they use entirely different parts of the brain, but you can use your whole brain to forge a career that beautifully joins art and technology. These three opportunities are just the tip of the iceberg.
