Black Panther & Now Bat Woman... Which Super Hero Represents the 'Real HU' - Howard or Hampton University?

Posted By: Will Moss on July 10, 2020

CW has tapped Javicia Leslie, a Hampton University graduate, to take over the **** role of "Batwoman" for its second season, the network announced Wednesday.

The HBCU community roared in response to Chadwick Boseman's role as super hero "Black Panther" in the feature film that was a box office hit. Boseman is a Howard University graduate, and both HBCU grads represent their HU roots well.

But there is a friendly competition/inside joke that has gone on for years between Hampton graduates and Howard graduates about which university is the "Real HU".

Maybe I am a bit biased because, I myself, am a proud Hampton University graduate, but I have family members that have graduated from Howard University and they make their case that they were a University while Hampton was an Institute back in the day. But what do you think?

In either case, we'd like to congratulate both HU grads and we look forward to watching their on going success!

I will always be glad to see Black folks, especially HBCU grads, do positive things in the movie and entertainment world. Congrats to sister Javicia Leslie. Glad to see her get her well earned roll. However, I'm biased too, but perhaps for different reasons. I like the story line of Black Panther better (though the movie didn't reflect the original story line), because it's the closest to an authentically African/Black story I've seen and heard in years (not perfect, but closest in years). So my favorite character between these 2 new Black characters is still Black Panther. Also, I wish to see Black acting rolls expand beyond playing characters limited to Euro-American and European mythology, to play characters of Black/African mythology. We have so much Black thought to explore on the movie screen, such as Tananarive Due's My Soul to Keep. Blair Undrwood tried to bring it to the big screen, he just didn't have the proper support. Maybe now he will get it. Respect, SB
