4 Great Presents to Motivate Your College Student Toward Their Professional Goals

4 Great Presents to Motivate Your College Student Toward Their Professional Goals
Posted By: Hannah Whittenly on August 10, 2020

College, more than most times in your child's life, is a time of rapid change as they prepare to transition to the professional world. All the training they have received us to this point will hopefully give them the foundation they need to be able to be successful in their future career. Sometimes, though, the best determinant of success is simply the motivation to make it happen. If you want to motivate your college student, here are some great presents that can help.

A Journal

Sometimes, the best way to succeed in the future is to think carefully about your past. Fortunately, that's just what a journal allows you to do. By giving your student a place to carefully think through and write down thoughts about their life, you will help them have greater clarity and focus so that they can take on ever-increasing challenges. You can even fill out the first entry for them, offering words of affirmation and encouragement for the future in what you write.

Notecards

Notecards might not seem like the first choice of motivational presents to give to your child. However, personalized note cards, with your student's name written boldly and professionally across the top, will give your student a taste of their professional life to come.

Seeing their name in this way will be an important mindset change, as they stop thinking of themselves as a dependent child and instead start thinking of themselves as an independent adult.

Tablet Computer

If you want to supercharge your college student's productivity, then a tablet computer is a safe bet. Unlike a phone that can be used as much for wasting time as much as it can be used for professional purposes, a tablet tends to receive focused and productive use because of its inability to make phone calls. A tablet computer will give your student one of the first tools they need to manage their future career, giving them the motivation they need to pursue their dream job.

Inspiring Book

There are many stories of business leaders who started with nothing and worked their way to the top. If you want to provide exceptional motivation, the biography of one of these business leaders can make a great present for your college student. What's unique about biographies is that there are many different kinds, meaning that you can choose a business leader in a similar field as your child plans to pursue. This will open your child's eyes to the possibilities that lie before them.

Above any presents, though, the best thing that you can give to your child to help motivate them is words of affirmation. Telling your child that you're proud of them and that you love them will light a fire in them that can't be put out. Don't just assume that your college student knows what you're thinking. Instead, through words both written and spoken, let them know that you see great things in their future.
