Follow siblings Robbie and Saniyah as they relive the outstanding accomplishments of iconic African-Americans, including the university’s founder, Booker T. Washington. Take in the spirit and pageantry of Homecoming as the Marching Crimson Pipers entertain and lead more than 30,000 fans in singing the university’s signature songs. After the game, witness the Black Greek sororities’ and fraternities’ comradery as they passionately sing their traditional songs. Then, share the families’ pride when they take a generational picture with their Legacy Brick.
Robert E. Constant, a 1998 graduate of Tuskegee University, has written the first officially licensed children’s book about the historic university. Titled "Hey Tuskegee!," the educational book tells the story of siblings Robbie and Saniyah as they take readers on a trip to their parent’s alma mater, Tuskegee University, for the annual homecoming celebration.
The siblings celebrate the accomplishments of iconic African-American alumni and historical figures, including the university's founder, Booker T. Washington. "From the Marching Crimson Pipers band leading a crowd of 30,000 in singing the university's signature song to the comradery of the Black Greek sororities and fraternities, vivid illustrations from James Zeger bring the celebratory campus event to life," according to a release from Mascot Books, the book's publisher.
The book teaches children about "the wonderful and rich history" of the university, said Linda Pace Samuel, a Tuskegee alumna and author of “Return of the African Diaspora.” “Robert did a fantastic job of capturing the ‘Skegee spirit as only an alumnus can," Samuel said, "and in a way that is sure to appeal to elementary and middle school students.”
