4 Medical Careers You Can Start Without a Bachelor's Degree
Posted By: Anita Ginsburg on January 21, 2022 Medical careers are widely known to be fulfilling both emotionally and financially. However, the extensive schooling and training often keep many aspiring professionals from pursuing a medical career. Don't give up your dream profession yet without knowing all your options. Here are four amazing medical careers that can be started without a bachelor's degree. Physical Therapy AssistantA physical therapy assistant often completes daily tasks that directly help the patient during their stay. Physical therapy assistants observe patients during their sessions and assist in the patient's movement and care. They set up machines and equipment for the patient's use and record progress to give to the physical therapist. An assistant in this field also teaches patients how to properly use equipment to better improve their health and capabilities. This position usually requires an associate's degree or additional training depending on the state and facility. Dental HygienistA dental hygienist often spends more time with patients than the actual dentist. A professional in this position cleans teeth, assesses a patient's oral health, and teaches their patient how to better brush and floss while at home. They're also responsible for taking x-rays and other diagnostics before checking in with the dentist to better the quality of your care. You'll need at least an associate's degree for this position and be required to pass the licensure exam for your state. Medical AssistantMedical assistants work directly under a physician to complete vital administrative duties and directly interact with patients. This position requires answering phones, taking medical histories, recommending care to patients and more depending on state guidelines. This position only requires a high school diploma or GED. Some hospitals prefer employing medical assistants with no training while many expect quality training from medical assistant programs. Rely on accredited, formal training from local or online medical assistant programs to provide all the necessary knowledge and experience for this position. Pharmacy TechnicianPharmacies around the world are staffed by technicians responsible for maintaining and recording health data as well as dispensing hundreds of prescriptions daily. Pharmacy technicians count and package the pills as well as handle patient payments and insurance claims. Technicians in this field require a high school diploma as well as on-the-job training that can fluctuate in length and requirement depending on the state. Don't miss out on finding the medical career that best suits your goals, education level, and work experience.
