5 Tips for Staying True to Your Christian Faith in College

5 Tips for Staying True to Your Christian Faith in College
Posted By: Kara Masterson on February 27, 2023

College can be a time of self-discovery and exploration. For many students, it is also a time when their faith is challenged. If you are struggling to stay true to your Christian faith in college, here are five tips that may help you.

Get Involved in a Local Church or Campus Ministry

One of the best ways to stay connected to your faith is to get involved in a local church or campus ministry. There are likely many different churches and ministries within walking distance of your college campus. Getting involved will help you feel connected to a community of like-minded individuals. It can also provide you with opportunities to serve others and experience fellowship with other believers. If you are unsure where to start, ask your friends or family for recommendations, or look online for churches or ministries in your area.

Take Time for Personal Devotions

In addition to being involved in a community, it is also important to take time for personal devotions. This may include reading the Bible, praying, journaling, or meditating. Taking time for personal devotions will help you grow closer to God and better understand his will for your life. It is important to find a devotional method that works for you and make it part of your daily routine. Otherwise, it may be easy to let personal devotions fall by the wayside when life gets busy.

Seek Out Like-Minded Friends

The friends you surround yourself with can have a big impact on your faith journey. If possible, try to seek out friends who share your values and beliefs.

These friends can provide support and encouragement as you navigate college life. They can also hold you accountable in your faith walk. Of course, it is also important to be respectful of those who do not share your faith.

Be Open about Your Faith

While it is important to be respectful of others' beliefs, it is also important to be open about your own faith. You never know when someone else may be searching for answers and could benefit from hearing about the hope that Jesus offers. Sharing your faith can be scary, but remember that God will give you the words to say when the time is right.

Consider Attending an Online Bible College

If you want to deepen your understanding of the Bible and learn how to apply its teachings to your life, consider attending an online Bible college. Many offer both undergraduate and graduate programs that can be completed entirely online. This makes programs accessible to students all over the world, regardless of their location or schedule. This can be especially helpful if you have a full-time job or other scheduling challenges that daytime college wouldn’t be able to work with.

College can be tough on anyone's faith journey; however, there are things you can do to stay true to your faith while attending college. By getting involved in a local church or campus ministry, taking time for personal devotions, seeking out like-minded friends, being open about your faith journey with others around you--even if they don't share the same views--and considering attending an online Bible college, you will set yourself up for success!
