Norfolk State and Howard Claim Top MEAC All-Sports Honors for 55th Anniversary Season
Posted By: Will Moss on May 23, 2026

Norfolk State University and Howard University have once again proven their athletic dominance across the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, capturing the league's most prestigious all-sports awards as the MEAC concluded its landmark 55th anniversary season.

The announcement came Friday night in Norfolk, Virginia, where the conference celebrated the achievements of its member institutions throughout what has been a historic year for the storied HBCU athletic conference.

Key Takeaway: Norfolk State and Howard's recognition for top all-sports honors underscores the continued excellence and championship tradition both institutions have built within the MEAC.

The MEAC All-Sports Awards recognize comprehensive athletic excellence across all conference-sponsored sports throughout the academic year. By earning these prestigious honors, both Norfolk State and Howard demonstrated consistent performance and competitive success across their athletic programs during the 2025-26 season.

For Norfolk State, located in Norfolk, Virginia, the award continues the university's tradition of championship-caliber athletics within the conference.

The Spartans have established themselves as one of the MEAC's premier athletic programs, and this latest recognition reinforces their standing among the conference elite.

Meanwhile, Howard University's recognition marks another milestone for the Bison athletic program. The Washington, D.C.-based institution has long been a powerhouse within the MEAC, and this all-sports honor reflects the breadth and depth of excellence across their various teams.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, founded in 1970, has been a cornerstone of HBCU athletics for more than five decades. The league's 55th anniversary season represented a significant milestone in its history of providing competitive opportunities and showcasing the talents of student-athletes at historically Black colleges and universities.

These all-sports awards celebrate not just individual team championships, but the overall athletic excellence and consistency that programs demonstrate across multiple sports throughout the entire academic year. The recognition reflects the dedication of student-athletes, coaches, athletic staff, and institutional support that makes championship-level performance possible.

As the MEAC moves forward from this anniversary season, both Norfolk State and Howard have set the standard for comprehensive athletic excellence that other conference members will aim to match in the years ahead.
