Academics
Academic effort and excellence are valued by our students, whose Advance Placement (AP) and SAT scores are consistently above national independent school averages. Typically 25% or more of the senior class receives National Merit recognition. We are proud of the tradition established by our students who rank first in the state on the Ohio Tests of Scholastic Achievement and achieve top academic honors every year in other city, state, and national competitions.
Beyond the Classroom
At Seven Hills, education extends to the laboratory, library, athletic field, art and music studios, the stage, and the wider community. A no-cuts policy encourages all students to participate in interscholastic sports. Our Outdoor Program offers unique learning experiences to third through eighth graders. Weekend trips include cycling, hiking, rock climbing, caving, skiing, and canoeing in nearby locations. Middle and Upper Schoolers may also take advantage of teacher-led outdoor trips and travel to foreign countries during school vacations. Upper School’s Personal Challenge requirement gives students opportunities for personal growth through their independent completion of self-designed projects outside their regular studies. Even the youngest of our students see the difference they can make as a result of community outreach activities.
Parent Involvement
Parents have an active and important role at Seven Hills. They may be trustees who help determine the policies and direction of the school, members of our Parent Associations, and/or volunteers who support our book fairs, school carnivals, Spirit Shop, and Resale Shop; they may be sports or arts boosters, library or teacher aides, classroom or grade level parents, to name just a few possibilities!
Teachers and advisors stay in close touch with parents through written reports, regularly-scheduled conference days, individual conferences as needed, school publications and mailings. Parenting seminars are scheduled throughout the year. Middle and Upper School parents have the opportunity to come together at grade-level meetings throughout the year.
