Scholastic's National Service Organization (NSO) is responsible for all of Scholastic's distribution operations. NSO provides customer service, warehousing, packaging, order fulfillment and accounts receivable functions for most of Scholastic's businesses. These operations are responsible for getting all books and products from “here to there” and are conducted in state-of-the-art facilities located in Jefferson City, Neosho and Moberly, Missouri and Maumelle, Arkansas.Picture an operation that:
In a year, the NSO fulfills over 25 million orders and ships more than 200 million books and educational products.
To get all the cartons out the door, they will have to travel a conveyer system that covers approximately two miles in the Book Club area. The distance traveled by all the cartons in a school year is 3.25 million miles. That distance would circle the Earth 130 times, or go to the moon and back 7 times!
In a book club season, enough product is shipped—150 million items— to give nearly 4 items to every child in the country between the ages of 5 and 14.
NSO Customer Service Representatives, for Book Clubs and other Scholastic business including Education, Trade and e-Scholastic, handle more than ten million phones calls, email and mail contacts with customers in a year.
