Overview
ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Washington DC and Tyson's Corner, VA team is looking for a Transportation Intern to join our Multimodal Operations & Engineering and Transportation Systems group. The selected candidate will work with a team of traffic engineers and transportation planners on a variety of public, private and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands and aviation.
Responsibilities
Working within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of multimodal transportation projects
Developing sign, pavement marking, and traffic signal design plans in MicroStation
Developing traffic signal timing plans
Researching best practices for traffic and transportation policy
Preparing written documents, summarize data and analysis, and assemble reports to convey findings and recommendations
Collecting and tabulating traffic data
Performing traffic engineering studies using Synchro, VISSIM, and other analysis tools
Analyzing intersection and roadway level of service
Performing quantity take-offs and cost estimates
Analyzing, developing, and evaluating of traffic improvements
Skills and Attributes
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to independently perform multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with coworkers.
Self-motivated with attention to detail.
Familiarity with transportation planning and traffic engineering principles and resources.
Team oriented with strong capability to work independently.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing undergraduate or master’s degree in civil engineering
VHB does not provide housing for internships.
Hiring Salary Range - $19/hr - $30/hr. However, the final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, and experience. In addition, VHB offers intern benefits which can be found here.
