Job Summary
The Michigan Marching Band (MMB) is a world-renowned and storied ensemble with a rich history and a long-standing tradition of musical excellence at the University of Michigan. The MMB is a cornerstone of the university's culture and athletic events and holds a special place in the hearts of students, alumni, and fans.
The Development Generalist provides comprehensive administrative and programmatic support to the Director of Development and Alumni Engagement for the Marching and Athletic Bands. This role supports stewardship, donor engagement, and event execution, while ensuring accurate and effective management of donor data and communications.
Key responsibilities include database management, coordinating donor visits and travel, supporting stewardship efforts, and assisting with the development and execution of annual giving initiatives. The Development Generalist also supports donor events, manages donor communications, including thank you letters and videos, and assists with gift processing and prospect research.
This role plays an important part in supporting donor and guest experiences, including game day engagement and logistics that connect alumni, families, and supporters with the Michigan Marching Band.
Responsibilities*
Administrative Support 40%
Assist with MMB and SMTD marketing, communications, and annual giving efforts, including development of solicitation materials and coordination of outreach aligned with brand guidelines
Track fundraising goals and provide support in maintaining annual giving data, generating reports, and updating records in DART and related systems
Provide support in generating gift and constituent reports as requested using DART and BusinessObjects
Generate mailing lists in coordination with Development Services and Strategic Solutions to support email and print communications
Support campaign planning initiatives, including assisting with development and tracking of prospect lists and reports
Support planning and execution of Giving Blueday and other annual giving initiatives
Respond to inquiries from internal and external constituents and route appropriately to ensure timely follow-up
Support donor and guest experience logistics, including game day operations
Assist with the coordination of donor and parent wristband processes, including tracking and distribution
Maintain donor access lists, including tunnel and field access coordination
Assist with coordination of game day operations, including management of section volunteers and parent representatives, credential distribution and communications, and support for wristband planning and campus partner coordination
Assist as a point of contact for parent section coordinators and support related communications
Assist with development and maintenance of weekly schedules, timing documents, and coordination of volunteer meetings related to game day and development activities
Stewardship Support 30%
Support production and distribution of annual impact reports for endowed and expendable funds, including printing, assembly, and mailing
Provide donor relations support and respond to inquiries regarding gifts and gift processing, partnering with SMTD Stewardship leadership as needed
Assist with arranging logistics for donor visits, including itineraries, scheduling, and parking
Compile donor lists and support reporting needs
Provide support for the preparation of endowment and scholarship reports
Assist with donor acknowledgement communications, including drafting, tracking, and distributing acknowledgement letters and coordinating thank you videos
Assist with planning and distribution of annual holiday cards, including list management and messaging
Event Support 30%
Support planning and execution of donor and alumni events
Create and update reports related to attendance, seating, dietary needs, and event logistics
Assist with the management of guest lists and invitation, reminder, and confirmation communications
Coordinate event logistics, including catering, venues, and vendor communication
Assist with the preparation of printed materials such as name tags, place cards, diagrams, and registration materials
Support guest experience planning and event execution
Provide on-site staffing for events as needed
Required Qualifications*
A bachelor's degree in a related field is required
At least one year of office experience, preferably in a development or fundraising environment
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience with Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite required; familiarity with database systems preferred
Ability to learn and effectively use DART and BusinessObjects
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Demonstrated commitment to customer service and donor relations
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and backgrounds
Ability to work nights, weekends, and game days as needed
The current expectation is at least two to three days per week in the office
