UniversityHousing Facilities include maintenance, facility planning, engineering,interior design and building service. <br><h4>Job Summary</h4>Perform physical labor on construction and maintenance work where some skill and experience are required. All University Housing staff will foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment within University Housing.<h4><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Duties & Responsibilities</span></h4><ul><li><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Performs various tasks including setting up barricades, installing signposts, demolishing for renovation projects, laying and leveling asphalt, asbestos abatement, drilling holes in concrete, flagging and managing traffic control, attends pre-job meetings for coordination purposes and recommends proper tools for work efficiency.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Assists in excavation work by hand digging ditches or trenches, backfilling excavations, breaking out concrete or asphalt, compacting and leveling earth to grade specifications, and shoring/bracing underground excavation. Assists and coordinates with other crafts for the delivery of materials and the cleaning of debris from work sites. Coordinate the placement of dumpsters and heavy machinery with Facilities and Services personnel.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards (e.g., measures, marks and records openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed).</span></li><li>Erects and disassembles scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.</li><li>Assists in the repair and replacement of sewer lines. Rods, brushes, and flushes lateral and side sewer lines. Cleans out and clears window wells and exterior drains of leaves and other debris.</li><li>Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.</li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned.</li></ul></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI""><strong>Additional Physical Demands</strong></span></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Arial"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Positioninvolves frequent physical activity, which may include moving equipment,navigating vertical spaces, moving about the worksite on varied surfaces,reaching and retrieving items at lower heights, and handling materials andequipment.<h4 style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Minimum Qualifications</span></h4><ul><li style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">High school diploma or equivalent.</span></li><li style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">One (1) year (12 months) of experience in the use of tools and equipment commonly used by laborers in the construction trade (examples of equipment may include: air hammer, concrete saw, patent scaffolding, trench digging equipment, etc.) and experience should include knowledge of asbestos removal/handling.</span></li></ul><h4 style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</span></h4><ul><li style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Knowledge of basic arithmetic.</span></li><li style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures.</span></li><li style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. </span></li><li style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Knowledge of erecting scaffolding and rigging supports.</span></li><li style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Knowledge of safety procedures.</span></li><li style="text-align: left"><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Ability to follow instructions.</span></li></ul></span></span></p><h4><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Appointment Information</span></h4><p><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 2210 - Construction Laborer position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">The wage for this position is $35.51 per hour. Finalsalary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available marketdata, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications,collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: "Segoe UI"">Sponsorship for work authorization is notavailable for this position.</span></p><p><span style="color: #000000; font-size: 9pt; font-family: "Segoe UI", sans-serif"><strong><span style="color: #13294B">Work Schedule:</span></strong> M-F, 8 AM-4:30PM.
