A large bell hangs in the clock tower overlooking the quiet campus of Morris Brown College. Its inscription reads, in part: Dedicated to the Education of Youth, Without Regard to Sex, Race or Color.
Founded in 1881 by African Americans, Morris Brown lost accreditation in 2003. Today, the HBCU's campus is largely abandoned.
Andrew Feiler was granted unique access to Morris Brown's silent campus. His searing architectural photographs offer fresh insights into timely and important stories. This powerful exhibition, at The Octagon in Washington, DC from late October through early January, offers an opportunity for exploration of various topics, including:
- The past, present and future of HBCUs and their continued critical role.
- The role of education as the backbone of the American Dream and risks that challenge this legacy.
- The artistic process and the role of art in inviting dialogue and contributing to social change.
