My team just arrived in town today and have everything set up to host you at our 2024 Annual Conference & Career Fair at Washington Nationals Park.

The venue is actually pretty big, and I don't want anyone getting lost, so I created a video walk through to help you know where to go when you arrive (8am for paid ticket holders, 10am for career fair and free ticket holders).

HBCU CONNECT Career Fair Know Before You Go!

Know The Audience
- Our event is for Experienced "Seasoned" Professionals as well as Students & Recent Grads
- Most employers have opportunities for both job seekers
- Don't judge a book by it's cover. A college or school district could be hiring tech professionals, or a tech company could be hiring marketing or sales professionals. Meet everyone!
Research:
- Research companies attending our career fair (see full list below)
- Prioritize which companies you want to visit based on your career goals.
- Challenge yourself to visit each company, introduce yourself and find out what kinds of opportunities they have available.
Resume Prep:
- Update your resume with your latest experiences, skills, and achievements.
- Tailor your resume for different types of roles or companies if necessary.
- Bring at least 40 copies of your resume on quality paper.
Landing an Interview:
- Craft a brief introduction (20 to 30 seconds) that summarizes who you are, your skills, and career interests.
- If you need some tips on perfecting that pitch, attend the Workshop with Maximus at 10am in the Reagan Room.
- The purpose of this event is to help you land an interview, so if there is a fit with a hiring company, be sure to ask for next steps for landing an interview. Each company may have different instructions.
- Some companies may want to set up a time to interview right away, or even ask you questions at their booth that could lead to an interview, so be prepared.
Dress Code / Attire:
- We recommend you come in professional attire or business casual in accordance with your field of work.
Plan Logistics:
- Save the location date and times for the career fair (below).
- Plan your route and transportation method to the venue.
- The career fair will be on-going from 10am to 4pm with optional Professional Development sessions you can attend.
- If you come early (10am), consider visiting employers with less booth traffic first to maximize your time with productive conversations.
Bring Essentials:
- Copies of your resume (at least 15-20 copies).
- Portfolio or folder to hold your resumes.
- Pick up an HBCUConnect free swag bag to hold any materials you receive.
- Bring a pen and notepad for taking notes.
Collect Information:
- Collect business cards or contact information from recruiters you speak with.
- Take notes on important details or follow-up actions.
- Write down names of any folks you'd like to connect with via LinkedIn post event.

- 6:30am - Opening Race Ceremony with Celebrity Grand Marshall (Gizelle Bryant)
- 7am - Start of 11th Annual DCHBCUAA 5k Race/Walk (Tickets Required)
- 11am - Conclusion of all DCHBCUAA 5k Race/Walk
- 6pm - HBCU Homecoming In June - ALL WHITE Party/Reception with Celebrity DJ (Tickets Required)
