The Washington Center - NRL Summer 2017 HBCU/MI/TCU Internship Program

You are receiving this email through The Washington Center's (TWC) partnership with HBCU Connect.

TWC is collaborating with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) for the Summer 2017 HBCU/MI/TCU Internship Program. Interns at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory are active participants in different research programs, working 40 hours per week with senior NRL staff to conduct hands-on laboratory research in their field. In addition, interns are provided the opportunity to attend scientific and skill-set seminars on topics including laboratory safety, ethics in science and engineering, job search and interviewing skills and resume writing.

The program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) majors, and attending a historically black college or university; a tribal college or university; or another minority-serving institution. Some of the specific projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Solar Energy Harvesting
  • Microbotics: Engineering and Design
  • Cybersecurity
  • Microstructural Studies
  • Elastomers and Functional Polymers
  • Computational Design of Materials
  • Laser processing of Biomaterials
  • And much more!

Summer 2017 Internship Details:
  • Application deadline: January 27, 2017 (extended)
  • Program dates: 10 weeks between Tuesday, May 30 through Friday, August 4, 2017
  • Undergraduate student stipend: $8,300
  • Graduate student stipend: $10,700
  • Transportation to and from D.C. will be provided up to $650 total
  • Housing is offered at no additional cost (stipends will be reduced for students choosing to stay in Washington Center-provided housing)

The application deadline for this NRL internship program has been extended to Friday, January 27, so there is still time to submit an application. All application materials including two recommendation letters - are due by midnight the night of January 27. Intern selection will begin the following Monday.

To submit the application, you must include basic information, your resume and an essay. An official transcript will also be required and should be sent as soon as possible.
