Job Description
Empowerment Coordinator
Chapters are the heartbeat of American Promise; collectives of people who are motivated to connect, learn, and create a better reality for their communities through sustained action. The Empowerment Coordinator’s role is central to equipping Americans with the skills and tools necessary to start and lead chapters, and create change in their communities, states, and Congress. Your focus is in three key areas: executing programming that attracts, inspires, and empowers individuals to take action; training individuals and groups to organize and mobilize; and supporting advocates in defining and achieving their goals while using feedback to better inform programming and meet volunteer needs. The position is full-time, 40-hours per week, with occasional nights and weekends. Travel to various states can be expected.

Program Execution
>Demonstrate an understanding of the current political atmosphere in America, how money in politics influences policy creation, and how Americans are affected
>Plan, organize, and participate in/speak at events that activate individuals and networks of people to take action for the amendment
>Generate program content including presentations, training materials, resource guides, emails, invitations, website copy, photos, etc.
>Conduct monthly chapter leader calls, including creating the agendas, scripts, and speaking/facilitating
>Conduct monthly national conference calls, including creating the agendas, scripts and speaking/facilitating
>Analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of the program against strategic goals and recommend and implement improvements
>Track and report on Empowerment metrics to show progress made toward achieving program goals
Chapter Training
>Identify individuals with the drive and ability to start and lead strong chapters
>Train and coach individuals and groups of people in group leadership and networking
>Travel to local communities in states across the nation to launch new chapters
>Train groups of people in civic engagement, generating political power, and effective advocacy for the amendment
>Meet people “where they are” and provide teaching and educational resources to match their interests, goals, and cultural context
Chapter/Advocate Support
>Build strong relationships with chapter leaders, members, and advocates through in person, phone, video conference, and email interactions
>Ensure advocates have the tools and resources they need to achieve their goals
>Inspire and encourage advocates through your conversations with them and by working with the Communications department to celebrate and share victories large and small
>Analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of the program against the needs and requirements of the chapter leaders and members and recommend and implement improvements
>Maintain a culture of our shared vision, commitment to the mission, and dedication to cross-partisanship, diversity, and empowering others
Qualifications & Requirements
>Demonstrate a sincere passion for the American Promise vision, mission, and goal, and a conscious commitment to hope and optimism
>Demonstrates cultural competence and sensitivity
>Demonstrate an understanding of and interest in the current political atmosphere, and how money in politics influences policy and people
>Experience teaching, tutoring, facilitating, coaching, and/or motivating others to achieve
>Experience volunteering or working for grassroots campaigns related to issues advocacy or political candidates
>Experience leading a collaborative, supportive, high-functioning team or group
>Experience building cross-cultural relationships, especially within Asian, Black, Indigenous, LatinX, or Pacific Islander American contexts
>Preferred skill: Is bilingual or multilingual with the ability to read, write, and speak in English
>Excellent interpersonal skills: able to connect with others, listen, relate, and collaborate to the collective satisfaction of the participants
>Strong communications skills, written and verbal, including public speaking and group facilitation
>Strong volunteer service orientation
>Able to work both independently and as part of a team
>Able to be flexible: able to understand and appreciate different and opposing perspectives on an issue, adapting one’s approach as the requirements of a situation change
>Able to keep a calendar, prioritize, and work on multiple projects with competing deadlines
>Demonstrate commitment to the values of empowerment, positivity, courage, grit, respect, candor, and cross-partisanship
>Demonstrate integrity, sound judgement, adaptability, reliability, a commitment to learning, and a sense of humor
