Organization Summary
Jazz Night School (JNS) is a Seattle nonprofit that uplifts lives through educational experiences for aspiring musicians—instrumentalists and vocalists—of any age or ability level. It is a community serving, community-funded organization located in the heart of Columbia City, one of Seattle’s (and the nation’s) most diverse and culturally vibrant neighborhoods. Founded in 2008, JNS is the region's largest all-ages jazz education program and is accessible to everyone, with tuition assistance provided to all in need. JNS takes pride in ensuring the best possible environment for life-long learners to experience growth and empowerment through their music studies.

Infused in the ethos and culture of JNS is an affirmation and honoring of the Black American originators of jazz. As part of the larger music community, JNS owes a profound gratitude and respect to these early musicians. Staff and leadership stay true to the spirit of the music and seek to maintain a vigilance and ongoing dialogue on what we, the musicians and community of JNS, can do to help dismantle the structures of racial discrimination and to heal its wounds.

JNS is at an exciting and critical stage of organizational evolution, progressing toward sustainability. With 250 seats filled per quarter (pre-COVID-19), JNS is still growing in the face of the pandemic by successfully pivoting to online programming that can reach even more students. JNS is currently focusing on increasing enrollment and building a sustainable fundraising program. It is in this context that JNS is adding strong marketing and communications expertise to its leadership team. Successful JNS organic search placement will be an immediate priority.

Position
The Marketing and Communications Manager is a full-time position, working with the Executive Director, staff, and Board to develop, execute, manage, monitor, evaluate, and adjust marketing and organizational communications to the JNS and greater jazz community. This position requires expertise, drive, and enthusiasm for the organization’s mission.

The Marketing and Communications Manager will play an integral role in Jazz Night School's success in the near future by providing the leadership needed to transform current marketing processes into sustainable systems that result in an increased awareness of JNS to the local, state, and broader jazz community, and a subsequent increased in-person enrollment (from 250 to 400 seats per quarter) and online enrollment from (125 to 500 per quarter).

Responsibilities
The Marketing and Communications Manager position will utilize and develop best practices to:

>Create and implement a strategic marketing plan
>Once onboarded, maintain and manage Jazz Night School brand - written and visual
>Primary writer/editor - efficiently and effectively create communications (independent and in collaboration with others) ensuring brand voice/continuity for marketing and fundraising collateral
>Develop compelling messaging of JNS value propositions
>Manage all marketing channels including digital and print collateral
>Manage SEO and organic search engine placement (a current priority)
>Write, edit, manage JNS Newsletters
>Create, manage, coordinate, and oversee content on JNS website (using Shopify content management system)
>Create, manage, coordinate, and track performance of JNS social media: FB, IG, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, solely and with other team members
>Primary customer service communications - monitor/manage info@jazznightschool emails and voicemail/telephone communications
>Public Relations - cultivate press and awareness of JNS in the world
>Staff JNS events (concerts etc.) for PR and managing of videography/photography
>Provide marketing analytics and reporting to Executive Director on a regular basis (TBD)
>Keep apprised of competitive market and proactively develop improvements or important initiatives
>Other duties as assigned

Compensation
Salary range depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule
40 hours per week. The work week is generally Monday to Friday with occasional work on weekends and evenings as needed. During COVID-19 work is mostly remote. Future remote/in office work ratio will be negotiated to meet organizational needs (1st) and employee needs (2nd).

Qualifications & Requirements
Qualifications
>SEO knowledge/experience with proven organic search placement results
>Excellent writing and editorial skills for marketing, public relations, and other professional communications
>At least five years of relevant experience and history of measurable results
>Desire to build top-notch systems and grow the organization into a learning resource known around the world
>Bachelor's degree in business or marketing or other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
>Vehicle access and drivers license required
