Job Description
Vice President, Health Equity
ZERO is seeking an inspirational and experienced leader who is highly motivated, organized, proactive, and passionate to address and ultimately eliminate existing racial disparities in prostate cancer. We can only achieve our mission to end prostate cancer, when we can zero out racial disparities within the disease.

With Black men experiencing double the prostate cancer incidence and nearly two and half times the mortality rate compared to white men, this new role of Vice President, Health Equity will lead ZERO’s health equity efforts across the organization and with external stakeholders and partners nationwide. As part of ZERO’s management team, this position will work with the prostate cancer community, healthcare organizations, sponsors, and like-minded partners and stakeholders to design and implement strategic health equity initiatives focused on improving health outcomes for the most high-risk individuals and their families while improving ZERO’s focus on health equity strategically and holistically. A demonstrated understanding of the historical role systematic racism plays in the healthcare system, coalition building toward providing healthcare solutions and improving awareness among communities of color, skillful teamwork with staff and stakeholders in developing programs, policy, partnerships, and compelling communications are critical factors in successfully improving health equity in the prostate cancer cause.

Primary responsibilities will include but aren’t limited to:
• Lead the design and implementation of a health equity and diversity and inclusion framework into ZERO’s culture, operations, communications, advocacy, and patient support and program portfolio, with a special focus on Black men and their families.
• Fully embed health equity across ZERO cementing health equity as a greater part of the practice, process, action, innovation, and organizational performance and outcomes.
• Amplify the equity narrative, develop and execute plans, identify measurable outcomes, and manage resources and relationships to successfully execute health equity goals.
• Build and nurture strong working relationships and partnerships with external stakeholders (e.g. health care, public health, faith, academic institutions, non-profits, and government agencies).
• Lead and foster ZERO’s Racial Disparities Task Force and identify talent for other ZERO leadership boards and positions.
• Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and translate best practice community-based research through a racial equity lens in order to identify and track disparities and make organization-wide recommendations and work to execute those actions.
• Collaborate and actively contribute to fundraising proposals, grants, and activities and help identify new funders and support existing sponsorship relationships.
• Oversee and track program deliverables and community engagement goals with determined metrics and benchmarking.
• Serve as ZERO’s health equity spokesperson with media, policymaking bodies, partner organizations, and in local and national forums and position the organization as a trusted thought leader in health equity.
• Collaborate across teams to direct the assessment and design of programmatic communications strategies, tactics, and public awareness campaigns designed to meet health equity goals.
• Monitor the latest prostate cancer trends, emerging social and political issues, science, and best practices for advancing health equity strategies.
Qualifications & Requirements
Skills and Qualifications:
• A master’s degree in public health, health education, social work, community development, public administration, health policy, or business administration is preferred.
• At least five years of directly related demonstrated experience in championing health equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, preferably in the healthcare, field organizing, campaigns, or not-for-profit space.
• A strong racial justice perspective and demonstrated understanding of health equity and the structural drivers of health that impact marginalized communities.
• Strong professional management and oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to self-manage, multitask, and prioritize competing needs.
• Team player who can collaborate and lead projects across teams.
• Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces are encouraged to apply.
• Eligible applicants must be legal residents of the U.S.

This role will report to the President and CEO and work closely with the ZERO’s Prostate Cancer Racial Disparities Task Force to build and develop ZERO’s health and racial disparities efforts. This first-time role is crucial in supporting ZERO’s mission and is expected to make an immediate impact.

The Vice President, Health Equity can be based anywhere in the continental U.S. Although ZERO staff are not traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will eventually require nationwide travel approximately 25% of the time.

Interested applicants should email resume, cover letter, and salary requirements to HR@zerocancer.org, while listing “VP, Health Equity” in the subject line. This is a full-time salaried position with a competitive array of benefits.
