Assistant Professor- Visual Art, Painting-Drawing
This position will entail teaching 9 credit hours per academic semester (Fall
and Spring), which is equivalent to 3 courses per academic semester. We seek a collaborative
colleague who will reinvigorate, expand, and build upon the current curriculum within our BFA in
Art program (which includes a Painting and Drawing sub-track within the Studio Art track); and
enrich our interdisciplinary MFA in concert with faculty in other media areas. An ideal candidate
will demonstrate proficiency in traditional painting methodologies as well as innovative practices,
including handmade as well as digital processes. They must be well-versed in history, theory,
and contemporary issues in order to create a solid foundation for inquiry, experimentation, and
informed expression. They must promote an expanded approach to drawing and painting,
allowing strategies beyond traditional mark-making. Teaching responsibilities will also
sometimes include courses rotated among the faculty, such as Graduate Critique Seminar,
Professional Practices, MFA and BFA Exhibition, etc.

Qualifications & Requirements
A terminal degree (MFA) with an emphasis in Painting or a related field
completed by the time of hire is required. This position requires the ability to teach and develop
curriculum for a range of courses in painting (oil, acrylic, watercolor, etc.), drawing, and related
media, including courses at the undergraduate level (BFA) foundational through advanced, and
also at the graduate (MFA) level, to be delivered face-to-face, in hybrid format, or fully online. A
minimum of 3 years of teaching experience (as instructor of record) at the college level is
preferred. Candidates should have experience working with diverse student populations in ways
that address their learning needs and which consider the politics of representation.
Additional/Preferred Qualifications:

Skills in printmaking, paper making, and bookmaking
Expertise in software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Procreate
Digital Fabrication
Community/Social Practice and Relational practice
