As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk.

The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, the group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

The Team & Role 
The Issues Management team resides team within the Corporate Risk Control Executive organization. The IM team is responsible for ensuring quality and timeliness of all Corporate Risk issues data that is managed in the SHRP module. This role is a new function on the team and will be responsible for supporting independent risk management to ensure timely entry of independent risk management identified issues for all lines of business. The officer will lead the design and development of this new function. 

  • Lead, develop and maintain the processes required to support the entry of independent risk management issues for Wells Fargo
  • Serves as point of escalation and resolution for the entry of independent risk management issues for Wells Fargo 
  • Provides leadership and direction to other team members 
  • Perform timely and accurate Issue Management system of record entry for Sources, Issues, identified by IRM
  • Establish an offshore practice, as needed, to support volume as we onboard independent risk management programs. 
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders and other control organizations, in performance of daily activities
  • Provide guidance, oversight and training for Issue Management procedures and documentation
  • Lead projects impacting the team
  • Creates and executes recommendations for process improvements 
  • Anticipates and proactively identifies and escalates emerging risks and proposes solutions to address problems and improve consistency across the team
  • Regularly influences and collaborates with all levels of the organization including management and senior level stakeholders

Team Member in this role must be able to function effectively in a complex, high-pressure, deadline driven environment that presents multiple, competing priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in risk management or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management

  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills
  • Ability to execute in a fast paced, high demand, environment while balancing multiple priorities
  • Knowledge and understanding of Shared Risk Platform (SHRP) such as reporting and issue management
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies, opportunities to streamline business processes, and implement change
  • Ability to consult, build, and maintain solid working relationships in and outside of immediate department



Other Desired Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience with Issue Management
  • Understanding of lines of defense 
  • Risk experience in the financial services industry
  • Self-Starter with the ability to adapt and function within a team that is being established
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues management concepts, process, tools, and environments
  • Experience with issue life cycle management, adherence to issues management policy and issue owner interaction models.
  • Strong process management and improvement experience.
  • Strong problem solving skills with ability to ascertain what is needed to be done and deliver results
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues management concepts, process, tools, and environments

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
