Associate Director, Global Access Innovation CoE, GCSO

Given our ever-changing healthcare environment and landscape, the pharmaceutical industry will need to constantly take on evolving opportunities and challenges, identifying and potentially working with new players in the healthcare ecosystem.

To succeed in this environment, we (Janssen) need to innovate and explore new access models and drive impact to achieve optimal access for patients.

Within this context, the Associate Director, Global Access Innovation will be an integral part of the Global Access Innovation Center of Excellence (CoE), building and executing novel patient-centric access models with the ultimate objectives of reaching optimal patient access and driving sustainable financial outcomes.

The incumbent will play a critical part in building a clear and comprehensive understanding of the market access trends around innovative access models, while also executing pilots with global, regional, and local stakeholders on such models.

This role will help enable the Global Market Access Leadership Team to both mitigate the increasing access risks in the marketplace as well as to shape the external environment in a manner more conducive to the strategic objectives of the business.

The Associate Director, Global Access Innovation will report into the Global Senior Director, Access Innovation CoE within the Janssen GCSO. The role will be based in New Jersey.


Key objectives:

  • Identification and scanning of emerging innovative access trends, analyzing those appropriate for potential internal exploration and adoption by Janssen
  • Creation and development of access innovation frameworks that are relevant to specific therapy area access needs
  • Execution of innovative access solutions pilots in specific regions / markets, enabling organizational learning of the most efficient and effective approach to get from scanning to ideation to pilots

This will be done in close collaboration with relevant Access and other cross-functional stakeholders across therapeutic areas, functions with GCSO and our regional partners.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate outlook for/trends in the innovative market access model landscape
  • Lead the ideation and development of innovative access model frameworks
  • Collaborates with Global / Regional / Local CMALs to ideate, test, and execute in-market pilots innovative access models across our portfolio
  • Engages with and mobilizes internal and external stakeholders to deliver on innovative win-win access solutions
  • Work closely with Global and Regional Access Leads (mainly with CMALs as the counterparts) to better understand challenges and opportunities looking for innovative solutions/models
  • Drive the cross-functional teams (global/region/opco) that will detail the implementation plans for new models, as well as the stakeholder engagement plan for implementation and partnership during pilot phase and scale up/launch phase
  • Access model implementation – covering program design, governance, develop project milestones, SOPs, etc.
  • Ensures that pilots that are successful become part of a global access innovation toolkit that can be scaled across therapy areas and/or market archetypes


Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
  • A minimum of 6 years related experience is required.
  • Broad based pharmaceutical sector and/or healthcare consulting experience preferred.
  • Strategic understanding of different business, commercial, and access models in the healthcare ecosystem
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to successfully work across functional and geographic boundaries, preferably across multiple countries/market types/access models is required.
  • Ability to clearly define access questions/problems and develop potential solutions and frameworks to apply across market archetypes
  • Ability to approach and engage external organizations ranging from big companies to startups in meaningful discussions with a goal of a future potential collaboration
  • Ability to influence individuals across a wide variety of functions especially in Commercial Strategy, Market Access, Finance, Access Policy
  • Adaptable, flexible, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Global (or multi-market) experience is required.

This position requires up to 25% travel (Domestic and International).
