Sr. Director, Regional Engagement

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Director, Regional Engagement to work in Coral Gables, FL.

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations supports and promotes the mission, purpose, and p

riorities of the University of Miami through fundraising and engagement by building and nurturing strategic philanthropic relationships to improve and transform the lives of individuals and communities. General Overview:

The Regional Engagement Team is responsible for all national and international engagement of constituents including alumni, parents, donors, and friends of the University. This team manages nearly 40 ’Canes Communities, regional coun
cils, and develops appropriate University national programming and tours. This team also serves as front-line regional engagement officers (each managing a small portfolio), proactively meeting constituents in top tier markets to get them involved, and soliciting them for gifts unde
$100,000. The regional team serves as volunteer engagement experts and will strategically pair up constituencies with opportunities for engagement, working to actively move volunteers through a pipeline of involvement and trajectory of giving.

The Senior Director, Regional Engagement, will be responsible for the supervision and strategic direction of the Regional Engagement team. This individual will lead the direction, execution, communication, and management of varied regional events and programs and establish metrics to measure success for the team. This individual will also solicit alumni, parents, and friends in support of University priorities/initiatives.

Essential Respon

Development of an annual operational plan for the regional team to encompass engagement and giving components with clearly defined measurement goals and metrics.

Market, manage, and implement a portfolio of innovation regio
programs and events which requires nationwide coordination with high level donors, alumni leaders, parents, and incoming students including, but is not limited to, tours with senior leadership, campaign road shows, signature regional programming, and ’Canes Communities activities.

Enhance regional engagement programming through strategic integration with the Annual Giving + Digital Engagement team, by implementing regional fundraising strategies.

Implement and monitor best practices and set goals to measure engagement through regional programming.

Identify, recruit, train, and manage alumni volunteers in accordance with the best practices set forth by the Office of Engagement.
Hire, train, develop, and manage a Regional Engagement Team of staff members.

Manage a portfolio of prospects to engage and solicit on an annual basis.

nes Communities and assist them with strategic planning, programming, volunteer recruitment, maintenance of leadership boards, and leadership succession planning.

Administer and maintain regular engagement with volunteer leaders through personal visits, telephone calls, e-mail and correspondence.

Maximize engagement for regional initiatives by using various recruitment and communication vehicles including, but not limited to, direct mail, listservs, websites, telephone campaigns, social media, ’Canes Community outreach efforts, and personal contacts.

Develop an effective plan to implement benchmarks within programs (i.e. create impactful alumni engagement strategies, capture "lost" alumni, update of alumni records, etc.) and to utilize these benchmarks to create a culture of continuous improvement.

Identify and recruit volunteers to provide support for university programs, such as

ng Alumni Leadership Council, UM Alumni Association Board, Citizen’s Board, student recruitment representatives, alumni career services, reunion committees, and capital campaign initiatives.

Manage the coordination of prospects between the Regional Engagement Team and major gift officers within each school/college, working to build a solid pipeline of leadership giving and engagement.

Manage the coordination between the Regional Engagement and Young Alumni/Student team.

Lead the strategy for an international engagement strategy for the top alumni markets outside of the U.S.

Identify and develop new program opportunities and establish appropriate goals for designated programs.

Administer and manage the budgets and fiscal reporting with full responsibility and accountability for all Regional Engagement budgets.

Benchmark and monitor regional programs as they relate to defined goals for regional engagement.

Serve as a liaison to the University and Division of Development and Alumni Relations to ensure communication and support of relevant regional programming and engagement opportunities to further the mission and maximize impact.


This position is responsible for the direct supervision of a team of regional directors, including support staff.

Responsible for the recruitment and management of alumni and parent volunteers and volunteer groups in identified program areas.

Benchmark, monitor, and adjust as necessary, the assigned program areas as they relate to defined goals, procedures, operational plans, budgets, and timetables.


Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

A minimum of seven years of effective and relevant work experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Experience supervising staff, fundraising with a successful record of accomplishment, working with volunteer groups, and strategic planning is essential.

Needs to be a creative thinker with excellent financial management, organizational and interpersonal skills, and a philosophy of teamwork and hands on implementation.

Ability to persuade and negotiate with internal and external audiences required.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required, as well as the ability to interact with all University constituents.

Flexible schedule due to the high time demands of the position is expected.

Willingness and ability to travel regularly is required (approximately once a month).
