Job Description

The Associate Director works with the Law Schoolís Assistant Dean of Academic & Student Affairs to develop a community at the law school that focuses on integrating studentsí intellectual, social and spiritual lives during their time at Boston College Law School. The position works collaboratively across campus to ensure our students are supported both in and out of the classroom. The Associate Director is also the lead administrator advising law students regarding disability accommodations and dual degree programming both internally at Boston College and with partner Universities. The Associate Director is an expert on academic policies and procedures and advises students related to registration and degree audits.

Student organizations are a critical part of the law schoolís community and programming. This position advises most student organization leaders and ensures a coordinated approach for event planning and community building at the law school. The Associate Director has oversight of all student organization budgets and budget requests.
The position supervises the Assistant Director, Academic & Student Services Assistant, and the Graduate Assistant.

Essential functions include:

Student Organizations & Student Formation

Serves as the contact and advocate for the Law Student Association and most student organizations
Develops, evaluates, and enforces all student organization policies
Acts as primary liaison to the Office of Graduate Student Life and serves as a subject matter expert on related student service matters for the Law School
Responsible for the approval of new organizations based upon the developed guidelines/policies
Advises student organization leaders to help ensure a coordinated approach for event planning and community building for the Law School, and supports their events
Oversees the allocation for student organization budget and budget requests
Works with the Assistant Dean to help build community among the law school population
Proposes and plans for improvements to student organization policies and programs
Accommodations & Wellness

Lead administrator working with law students for accommodations
Works directly with students and coordinates services with Connors Family Learning Center and the Office of Disability Services
Works with the Assistant Dean, faculty, and Registrar to coordinate disability accommodations from initial request to implementation based on individual accommodation plans
Monitors student inquiries related to accommodations and hires note takers as needed for classes
Works collaboratively across campus to promote wellness for the community and creates wellness programming
General Academic and Other Student Advising

Acts as a policy expert in areas related to registration and degree audits
Advises students related to registration, graduation requirements, ABA standards, and degree audits.
Trains and supervises the Assistant Director in registration policy and degree requirement questions; works with team to answer general inquiries and support students
Advises students regarding their issues and concerns, helps resolve and recommends appropriate resources both at the Law School and the University
Dual Degrees

Primary point person for dual degree advising, coordination with law faculty leads for each program
The Law liaison to the other schools' faculty advisors for our internal dual degrees (MSW, MBA, MED & MA, Phil MA and PhD) and our external partners
Creates dual degree information sessions, tracks dual degree student enrollment and progress, informs and updates relevant constituents regarding program changes or new dual degree programming
Meets regularly with prospective and current dual degree students to provide advice and facilitate course registration, and ensure they are on track to meet graduation requirements
The Associate Director is involved in a variety of Law School programs and services such as Commencement, Open Houses, Orientation, and the Academic Support Program. The Assistant Director works with other departments within the Law School and the University, including Academic Services, Career Services, Admissions, the Alumni Office, Communications, Parking & Transportation, the Office of Graduate Student Life, and the Bureau of Conferences.

Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelorís degree required. Masterís degree in a relevant field preferred
Minimum of 5 years of directly related and progressively responsible experience, specifically in the area of student activities and academic advising
Computer and systems proficiency with particular expertise in Google Docs and Sheets, Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn new technologies, software, and applications
Expertise in registration platforms and student life platforms is a plus
Some evening and weekend work may be required
