Senior Mechanical Engineer|
About the role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will be joining a fast paced, dynamic, creative, solution-oriented, world-class HW development team to engineer and develop products where form and function go hand in hand and take them from initial concept to mass production/commercialization.
The successful candidate will be self driven and have a proven track record taking ownership of a product(s)/system(s) and driving them to production. The candidate will need to be very hands-on, have a can-do positive attitude, pay close attention to detail, and take this approach to solving difficult problems using creativity and sound engineering judgement. The individual must also be able to navigate through and strive in a startup environment where everyday challenges include: broad, dynamic, and in some cases undefined requirements, making decisions without a clear path forward, limited people, budgets and established procedures. Negative, complaining, and rigid outlooks are not acceptable for this role - We are looking for positive, out of the box, forward and free thinking individuals who are committed to building something special that impacts the world around us.
Create and facilitate manufacturable mechanical design solutions that meet all functional requirements that come from Engineering, Systems, Marketing, and CX team leads.
Implement engineering and design priorities from the ME Director and work together to find more ways to reduce cost, optimize timelines, approve and evaluate new vendors, improve design, prototyping and manufacturing processes.
Iterate / ideate rapidly based on dynamic product requirements, marketing needs, and feedback from the field and customers
Strive for simple elegant designs that reduce complexity and increase reliability
Own and drive the development of a product/system
Collaborate, support and work with our electrical and software engineering teams
Develop prototypes for evaluation and testing and iterate quickly based on feedback
Devise quick tests and perform mechanical qualification testing and certification both in house and at our test labs
Support our Production team for issues related to manufacturing and assembly.
Provide engineering support and solve issues that come back from the field
Communicate and Present Designs/Solutions to others within the company
Coordinate, manage, and collaborate with local and remote suppliers to drive on-time delivery of parts that meet cost requirements
Mentor other engineers
BS/MS degree in Mechanical Engineering
5-10 years of mechanical engineering/product design experience
Strong understanding of engineering principles and analytical problem solving skills
Expert level 3D CAD / 2D drawings (GD&T) and PDM Experience required (Solidworks preferred)
Experience with simulation and analysis methods (Thermal, FEA, CFD and statistical tolerance analysis)
Working knowledge and experience with higher volume manufacturing processes: injection-molding, machining, die-cutting, extrusion, stamping, and materials such as plastics, metals and glass
Extensive experience with rapid prototyping - 3D printing, machining, etc
Hands on experience with shop tools for building, tearing down, and repairing
Experience performing mechanical and environmental testing: shock and vibe, IP testing, thermal shock/cycle, and UV.
Open-mindedness and willingness to try new ideas and solutions before saying no
Comfortable with all phases of the product development life cycle including design, implementation, debug, validation, characterization, qualification and transfer
Data driven decision making skills
Highly motivated to go above and beyond in a fast paced dynamic startup environment that will require you to wear different hats and ability to adjust on the fly to frequent changes in direction
High level ability to mult-task, stay organized and be on top of your priorities without letting them fall through the cracks
Excellent multi-functional teamwork, and exceptional written/verbal technical communication skills
Able to establish and maintain a optimum working relationship with a wide variety of individuals
A portfolio of your past mechanical projects
Design Experience with Sensor and Solar products a big plus
Experience with designing enclosures and mounting systems for rugged industrial applications.
