Job Description
Laboratory Technician
The Laboratory Technician performs comprehensive clinical laboratory procedures of low and high complexity. The incumbent leverages knowledge in biological sciences to perform general laboratory responsibilities, such as processing patient specimens, maintaining laboratory equipment, performing data entry, and preserving laboratory records.
Receives and accepts the samples coming from the clinics, hospitals, and FedEx, separates them by type of tests required, and distribute to the different laboratory departments (areas) that will perform each specific type of test.
Performs sample Aliquoting and sample inventory.
Maintains samples inventory and discards them according to the laboratory standards and procedures.
Enters accessioning data into computer systems; UCHART/EPIC, Histotrac, Outport, QUANUM from Quest.
Transports samples from clinic or hospital to laboratory in compliance with CLIA and ASHI standards.
Processes and dispatches specimens to reference laboratories and/or centers assuring that viability is maintained by proper preservation (e.g. packing in dry ice, pre freezing, samples, wet ice, or adding preservatives) and that laws and regulations are followed for transporting etiologic agents.
Maintains rooms and equipment clean and functional.
Provides support and guidance to physicians and coordinators, as needed.
Troubleshoots samples without orders or orders with wrong information. Receives supplies, organizes stock room and maintains inventory.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent

One year of relevant experience required; medical experience preferred

Phlebotomy certificate, required
