University of Miami Precollege – division of Continuing and international education

University of Miami Precollege offers both credit and non-credit programs for high school students seeking to gain college experience before graduating from high school. Upon completion, participants feel better prepared for the undergraduate admission process and gain confidence in their academic choices and ability to succeed in college.

Precollege consists of the Summer Scholars three-week credit program and UM Academies two-week, non-credit program for high school students (rising sophomores, juniors and rising seniors). The program hosts approximately 340 students – 250 of which are residential. A staff of approximately 35 UM students work as Community Assistants, a role similar to RAs who supervise students on the residential floors, create evening programming, providing academic support, and fostering an inclusive campus community.

With s tudent health and safety as our priority, we strive to provide an authentic campus experience for our precollege students – filled with stimulating academics, engaging programming, and unique weekend excursions.

Internship: Resident Manager, Summer Scholars Program

This internship provides an ACOHO-I intern with invaluable real-world, hands-on work experience that can be applied to their current coursework. We are seeking a candidate ready to immerse themselves in the Resident Manager role, and apply their residential and student life experience and skills to develop and manage our residential program.

Position Description:
Work directly with University of Miami Precollege programs including Summer Scholars (credit) and UMAcademies (non-credit) programs; embrace and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; and foster the conditions for a strong campus community.
Responsible for supervising and training 3 program coordinators (programming, logistics, health protocols), approximately 32 residential staff, and an estimated 340 precollege students (250 residential students and 80 commuters).
Responsibilities include developing residential staff training program and materials, leading residential staff training; facilitating staff meetings; fostering staff development, conducting staff evaluations; and managing various program initiatives to include pre-arrival communications, event and logistics.
Coordinate all aspects of the residential program related to residential staff and students, regarding space, student life, and hall programming.
Serve as primary liaison with the Department of Housing and Residential Life; actively participate in major events such as residence hall move-in and move-out days as well as the housing assignment process. Coordinate room changes, manage late check-in and early check-out, communicate and follow up on facilities issues, and submit applicable paperwork in a timely manner.
Clearly communicate and apply all Summer Conference Housing policies to the precollege students and staff.
Assist with the residential disciplinary conduct adjudication process including, but not limited to, ensuring due process, meeting with students, assigning level appropriate informal resolutions, student follow-ups, policy violation documentation, and tracking of such by maintaining accurate student conduct records
Respond quickly to emergencies and crisis situations, including managing instances involving various health/medical, behavioral, or other safety-related circumstances.
Manage student emergency contact information; transport students to/from health facilities as needed (non-emergencies).
Be knowledgeable on and enforce University of Miami Precollege and UM Student code of conduct. Document all incidents in a responsible and timely manner, providing the appropriate written (Incident Reports) and verbal behavioral data relevant to administering guidance and discipline in response to these incidents.
Be knowledgeable of campus resources and provide information when needed.
Lead and monitor evening and weekend student residence life programs, activities and events; Chaperone field trips as needed; and supervise inventory in storage room.
Possess a valid driver’s license; drive a University vehicle.
Night and weekend work required.
Will have 'on-call' responsibilities and will be required to respond to emergency and other situations during and after normal business hours.
Directly supervised by Program Director; collaborate with Precollege staff.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Internship will be conducted remotely from May 15 through June 19, 2022.
Internship will be in-person on campus from June 20 – July 31, 2022. During residential portion of internship, intern is provided with a meal plan and a single room in a UM residence hall. During the program the Residential Manger will live on a precollege floor, among the precollege student population.
Intern will be paid a $7000 stipend for the assignment.
