Job Characteristics Information

  • May have input to development of new processes, standards or plans in support of the organization’s strategies
  • Understanding of related major functions
  • Focused on managing scientific or technical processes

  • Responsible for delivering on components of the strategic plan as assigned or directed by leadership
  • Focused operating area with work product outcomes likely part of a larger function
  • Some positions at this level have organizational accountability in ensuring compliance with appropriate laws and regulations
  • Establish project success criteria and monitor activities
  • Manage budgets and resources, including skilled professionals, and achieve activity goals.

Typical or Expected Qualifications
  • Typically requires BS with 10+ years of experience, Masters with equivalent experience
  • May manage substantial budgets, but nature of budget more important than amount; more typically responsible for managing within the budget rather than setting resource priorities
  • Many of these positions typically manage small professional staffs. May have Manager 1 reporting into this position

  • Typically requires BS with 8+ years of experience, Masters with equivalent experience.
  • May administer substantial budgets but nature of budget more important than amount; however, responsibility is for project management and delivering within budget rather than having discretion on expenditures and priorities.
  • Some positions may, instead, exercise more oversight over a slightly smaller budget
  • Most positions manage a small staff of professional employees – usually less than 5.
