Job Description
Manager Aircraft Customization

This position will manage Aircraft Customization including production, safety, quality and personnel in Piney Flats, TN.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Achieve Bell and Textron safety established goals for reportable incidents and lost time injuries

  • Reflect and promote Textron, Bell, and Piney Flats values and behaviors

  • Manage and administer the day-to-day customization activities to ensure all aspects of safety, quality, cost, and schedule are met.

  • Ensure compliance with Part 145 Repair Station and Quality Control Manual

  • Coordinate cross functionally to prioritize deliverables to meet the needs of the business

  • Oversee upkeep of shop equipment and tools and cleanliness of workstations

  • Review and validate customizing budget with the Senior Aircraft Services Manager

  • Manage customizing schedule to ensure on time schedules and on budget constraints are achieved

  • Identity Indirect Labor Costs to help reduce overtime and balance overhead labor

  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly operational performance reviews

  • Provide estimates of the time complete scheduled customization and labor for quotations

  • Ensure personnel and resources requirements are identified, validated, and allocated to the correct areas to ensure on-time completion of projects

  • Conduct capacity analysis and resource planning with the Master Scheduler

  • Brief senior leaders to validate headcount requirements

  • Lead and develop direct reports to do their assigned work by monitoring, coaching, acquiring resources, problem solving, and communicating key challenges accomplishments and opportunities to the Senior Aircraft Services Manager.

  • Provide constructive feedback to improve performance and develop Supervisors and Lead Mechanics.

  • Interact with multiple business lines including the final customer and their maintenance and flight operations staffs.  


Qualifications & Requirements

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Technical Field - Preferred


  • 7 years supervisory experience leading and directing aircraft maintenance technicians

  • 10 years of experience maintaining, modifying, and repairing helicopters or aircraft to ensure airworthiness

  • 5 years of administrative oversight of planning and scheduling aviation maintenance activities

  • 7 years of experience related to structural, fabrication, disassembly, and reassembly of aircraft


  • Ability to understand and enforce compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations and FAA requirements for 145 Repair Station Operations.

  • Basic understanding of Employee Resource Planning operating systems

  • Experience in evaluating data and metrics to support capacity and headcount planning

  • Firm Understanding of manpower and labor forecasting

  • Ability to lead and develop cohesive teams

  • Highly skilled in communication

  • Proven ability to multitask in a high performing team culture environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Power Plant License highly desired

  • Advanced knowledge of composite materials, aerospace structures repair and modification, familiarity with aerospace industry manufacturing methods

  • Prior work experience in engineering or technical position in aerospace related field

Woking Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move various shop floor equipment.

  • Ability to move, bend, kneel under production aircraft.

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work stands.
