Director, Learning & Development Strategy

GROUP/DIVISION:

The Director, Learning & Development Strategy is responsible for leading a functional organization as part of the Engineering & Operations Services organization within the Pharma Services Group. This role can be located at one of the ThermoFisher Scientific sites or remote.

POSITION GOAL /OUTCOMES:

To build, leverage and lead both the global learning & development strategy and the global functional team to reduce human error through improved role-based learning, development and on the floor job aids.

Specific outcomes of the role:

  • Partner with Quality, PPI & IT functions to improve, simplify, standardize and train out business unit standard processes.
  • Drive global standardization of consistent best practices for training content and design.
  • Support employees in their role to:
    • Accelerate consistent learning from front door to lab /shop floor.
    • Deliver zero defect operator output resulting in right first-time manufacturing and on time delivery.
    • Improve productivity globally via improved initial learning and later in role knowledge and skill development.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Learning & Development Strategy is a highly visible, global role that will partner with a diverse set of business leaders to drive an exceptional customer experience across our broad network of services. This individual will develop and lead a group level, functional L&D organization in partnership with divisional business unit leaders across our 5 major business units over 68 sites.

Our goal is to spectacularly improve the colleague and customer experience by maximizing the capabilities of our team through world class learning and development initiatives, This role will champion cross-Group and cross-Division communication and continuous improvement culture by building strong and effective working relationships across our organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, implement and lead a global functional learning & development organization to include:

Strategy:

  • Align global /business unit strategies and objectives with Operations, Business, Quality, IT and Divisional leadership across our organization, and resource appropriately
  • Define learning and development journey and requirements per the needs of each business and site.
  • Tools, templates, and processes to consistently drive faster and effective execution of training and qualification of our colleagues.
  • Build a roadmap for technology platforms in collaboration with both PSG and Corporate IT.

Execution:

  • Ensure compliance and alignment with cGMP requirements for qualification and lifecycle management of content.
  • Manage or participate in various COPs related to Quality, PPI, training & technologies.
  • Apply and promote Organizational Change methodologies to enable our employees impacted by change to engage, embrace and use the recommended solutions.
  • Involve appropriate business partners, maintain continuous communication, and update regularly on progress.

Measure:

  • Partner with business leaders to develop appropriate effectiveness metrics. (Value).
  • Assure learning and development dashboard and metrics are established, maintained and communicated to evaluate improvement opportunities.
  • Garner approval for the pursuit of identified, communicated and prioritized high value opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred degree in science, engineering, or business-related field. Advanced degree/MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in learning & development field.
  • Experience developing standard ways of working and deploying tools across geographically dispersed sites and divisions.
  • Experience leading global organizational change initiatives.
  • Proven track record of leading through influence and aligning organizations around goals and strategy to develop strong business relationships across functions and geographies.
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed organization, maintaining alignment between business units or functions.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading learning & development function at global scale spanning multiple divisions, regions, and products/services.
  • Pharmaceutical, medical device industry experience preferred.
