Senior Consultant:Communications Strategist
DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Senior Communications Strategist who will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic communication plan focused on increasing HSD’s visibility and opportunities for thought leadership in the public health and health services realms. Over time, this strategy will include ongoing identification of key opportunities and channels for promotion, timely positioning of HSD’s expertise and capabilities, and building capacity for thought leadership among JSI staff. You will accomplish this through close collaboration with HSD’s senior project staff, current thought leaders, senior HSD leadership, and JSI’s Corporate Communications team. This position will report directly to the Vice President of the HSD.

RESPONSIBILITIES

-Engage with senior staff and project directors to understand HSD areas of expertise, current and desired domains and topics for external recognition and leadership, and target audiences for purposes of increasing visibility.
-Identification of key opportunities, initiatives, and projects for promotion in partnership with HSD leadership and senior project staff
-In partnership with HSD leadership, develop a strategic communication plan that includes: visibility goals and metrics; key messages; and short- and long-term activities to advance the goals and metrics.
-Oversee implementation of the strategic communication plan through leading of specific communication activities and supporting project staff to successfully advance priority communication goals.
-Monitor strategic communication plan progress and revise goals and activities at regular intervals.
-Serve as the HSD liaison to JSI’s Corporate Communications team to ensure that our division-wide communications and thought leadership work are well integrated with our organization-wide communications plan and activities.
-Support new business development efforts through timely communication activities and contribution to business development strategy.
-Conduct a scan of competitors’ communication activities, as well as prior HSD communication activities, to identify areas for improvement.
-Limited travel within the U.S. to represent JSI at conferences and events as health and safety guidelines allow.
Qualifications & Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS

-Masters degree and at least ten years of experience in communications and/or marketing field and at least five years of experience in consulting and/or strategy development related to marketing/communications (or bachelors degree plus 13 years of experience and at least five years in consulting and/or strategy development related to marketing/communiciations).
-Demonstrated experience leading diverse groups and individuals to recognize, innovate, and engage in strategic communications activities to enhance organizational visibility.
-Commitment to advancing health and racial equity through internal organizational practices and external project work
-Proven track record of building communication skills and capacities among both teams and individuals to increase visibility.
-Knowledge of public health, health systems, and health equity and familiarity with relevant communication channels (e.g., conferences, journals, news outlets, social media) and professional organizations.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills, including copyediting.
Preferred:
-Experience supporting organizational use of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and integrated marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact)
-Experience working with mission-driven organizations.
-Strong aesthetic sense, and understanding of good design principles.
Salary commensurate with experience.
