Student Services NCAA Specialist - Financial Aid & Scholarships
The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Student Services NCAA Specialist position. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.

The Position:

This is an on-campus position with some hybrid/remote work schedule flexibility.

This position requires specialization and expertise in awarding federal, state, institutional, and athletic aid. Award athletic stipends and scholarships according to NCAA, SEC, University and federal guidelines. Reviews external scholarships awarded to student athletes to determine if the award is allowable. Reviews approved Student Athletic Opportunity Fund recommendations and determines student eligibility for the award. Notifies student athletes of their annual athletic scholarship agreement. Completes Degree completion forms of the NCAA. Assists in completing reports for the SEC about student athlete financial aid. Direct coordination of verification document review for the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. Responsible for coordinating input, auditing and verification of financial statements submitted through the application process for all aid programs. Monitors the readiness of appeal documents for the committee review (including Satisfactory Academic Progress, Special Circumstance, and Dependency Appeals). Advises students and/or parents of outstanding requirements and if additional information is necessary to complete and expedite the evaluation and awarding process. Provides training and support regarding the verification program to One Stop and other campus partners.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required Education and Experience:

• Associates Degree or 2 years of financial aid training and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• 2-4 years progressively responsible financial aid or tax experience and Ellucian Banner experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent oral and communication skills.

• Ability to write clear, concise letters using effectual writing skills.

• Sensitive to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

• Proven ability to work effectively as a team member.

• Ability to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions.

• Ability to work independently, under time constraints, and prioritize projects.

• Ability to maintain a high level of discretion.

• Ability to interpret complex policies and regulations.

• Knowledge of MS Office products or similar.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of federal, state, NCAA/SEC, and institutional financial aid regulations.

• Knowledge of governmental agency guidelines including but not limited to the IRS, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Homeland Security, Social Security Administration and INS to analyze applications and data sent to the university from prospective and current students.
