Seeking Professor of Practice in Games and Interactive Media
Seeking Professor of Practice in Games and Interactive Media

The Department of Media and Information (M&I) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks to hire an in-person, full-time Professor of Practice in Games and Interactive Media to join our games team on the vibrant East Lansing, Michigan, campus. We are looking for an experienced game maker and visionary with a compelling portfolio highlighting their ground-breaking, creative approach to this exciting, evolving medium. Ideal candidates would have experience in XR/AR/VR development, as well. We welcome applications with relevant experience from disciplines such as interactive and immersive media, computer science, simulation, 3D graphics, and animation. Expected start date is August 16, 2023.

Candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to the broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as AR/VR, game development, game programming, and game design, serious games, as well as courses of their own that may become part of the core curriculum. Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to our departmental community. While not required of the position, Professors of Practice in M&I are supported and encouraged to work on creative projects and funded research.

Games have always been made by and embodied the experiences of many types of people, but the broader gaming community has not always been welcoming to all. We seek to reflect and cultivate diversity and community within our department. We welcome applicants with experiences and backgrounds in developing games for diverse and underserved communities to apply. An advanced degree, such as a MA, MS, MFA or Ph.D., is desirable but not required.

Our undergraduate Game Design and Development program at MSU was ranked #1 among public universities (#6 overall) and the graduate program was rated #12 by Princeton Review in 2022 and #9 by US News & World Report. M&I is part of a communication program ranked #3 in the world in the Shanghai Ranking, and #9 in Communication & Media Studies in the QS World University Rankings.
