Strategic Marketing Manager
Organization: Food Forward, Inc - a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit
Position: Strategic Marketing Manager
Hours: Full-time, Exempt, hybrid
Salary: $70,000-$75,000
Location: North Hollywood

Position Overview: Food Forward is seeking a full-time Strategic Marketing Manager. The Strategic Marketing Manager is a creative storyteller that will be an ambassador of the organization; responsible for seeking marketing opportunities, while developing the social and digital strategy, with a focus on PR-worthy campaigns to advance and elevate the organization’s impact. The candidate is a results-oriented out of the box thinker with experience managing a growing portfolio against rolling and tight deadlines. They are able to conceive an idea and determine the steps to execute a vision with minimal supervision. They will be an integral part of the Communications team reporting to the Director of Communications. The Strategic Marketing Manager works closely with team members across the organization including Development, Community Programs, Agency Relations, and Wholesale Recovery.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing Strategy
Develop and implements the annual and digital marketing strategy plan alongside the Communications Director
Seeks promotion and advertising opportunities to build awareness for each of the Food Forward programs and develops and manages the organization's advertising strategy
Research, identifies, and prepares the organization’s requests and submission packages for annual conference and award opportunities
Creates and implements marketing events
Ability to use data to craft a narrative that showcases the impact of organization’s work across various audiences
Experience catering messaging to various audiences
Works alongside Communications Coordinator to assess marketing KPIs on digital platforms to inform strategy and future plans
Collaborates with Communications Coordinator and internal departments to identify newsworthy content
Build media partnerships and manages outreach
Curates inspirational marketing campaigns in collaboration with Communications Director

Media Relations
Correspond and build relationships with hunger relief agency partners’ and works with the Communications Coordinator to maintain up-to-date contacts/database
Has existing media contacts to expand from
Perform occasional on-site visits to program partners and programmatic events
Prep staff and ambassadors for media visits and interviews
Collaborates with Communications Coordinator to draft and prepare award and speaker submission packages
Attends media shoots as needed
Becomes proficient in policies and data related to Food Forward to draft talking points
Excellent writing, researching, and editing skills
Crafts media and social tool kits, along with press releases and media alerts

Social Media, Content Creators, and Video
Social Media wizard (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc.)
Develops and implements annual and campaign social media plan and calendar, while assisting with managing the daily social media needs
Build a roster of like-minded content creators and potential ambassadors
Knowledge of current trends, media outlets, and how to set trends to engage and grow audiences across social platforms
Passion for video and developing video content
Comfortable appearing on camera/on air on short notice, and able to occasionally step in as a surrogate for the Communications team for external media requests.
Executes additional communications department projects as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
4-5 years professional experience in public relations or marketing with an expertise in social media and marketing strategy
Bachelor’s degree in communications, media relations, marketing, or related field or experience
Proven track record building an online audience and managing social media platforms, specifically LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat for a company, brand, or nonprofit, along with paid advertising
Experience drafting and pitching media and newsworthy idea, along with work samples that showcases this work
Ability to effectively communicate with organizations that serves a diverse population
Strong organizational, time management skills and possesses independent judgment amongst shifting priorities.
Outstanding ability to work in fast-paced work culture, managing multiple projects against rolling and tight deadlines
Knowledge of Adobe Suite is essential; along with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Wordpress, Asana, and Keynote and willingness to learn new platforms
Strong collaboration skills across various stakeholder groups
A valid CA drivers license and ability to travel to office locations in Los Angeles and Ventura locations.
Available to occasionally work weekends and early or after hours

Organizational Overview: Food Forward fights hunger and prevents food waste by rescuing fresh surplus produce, connecting this abundance with people experiencing food insecurity and inspiring others to do the same. Fruits and vegetables are collected in Los Angeles and Ventura counties from backyard fruit trees, orchards, farmers markets, and the downtown Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. This recovered produce is provided, free of charge, to hunger relief organizations that serve community members in various ways: food banks, homeless outreach agencies, domestic violence shelters, transitional youth homes, veteran services, family resource centers, LGBTQ+ teen/adult/senior services, college student assistance programs, programs serving people with disabilities, and many more.
