What the intern expects to learn from this assignment:
• Quality Improvement Meetings
• Participate in daily/weekly staff huddles as schedule allows
• Learn about other quality improvement teams at the AAP
• Quality Improvement Projects
• Participate in project meetings with project staff, subject matter experts and other leaders
• Participate in educational webinars hosted by the team and other AAP programs
• Qualitative and Quantitative Data Analysis
• Develop proficiency with Microsoft Excel, such as using formulas, tables, and charts to manage and analyze data
• Learn to organize, analyze, and interpret qualitative data
What major projects or activities the intern will be involved with:
• Assist with management and analysis of AAP Quality Networks participation data.
• Merge multiple spreadsheets into one database
• Filter and "clean" data by reviewing files to identify and resolve discrepancies
• Validate participation data through online searches and/or outreach to primary care practices or hospitals
• Assist with summary and analysis of participation data using Excel tables and charts
• Assist with management and analysis of AAP Quality Networks survey data
• Merge multiple spreadsheets of data into one data base
• Apply standard labels for survey questions and response options within database
• Assist with summary and analysis survey data using Excel tables and charts and basic descriptive statistics
• Qualitative data analysis
• Assist with the organization and analysis of qualitative data by coding survey responses and maintaining a database of survey responses
• Assist with identifying themes and patterns in coded data
Skills needed:
• Interest social science or public health research
• Interest in public health, knowledge in quality improvement a plus
• Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, basic understanding of Microsoft Excel
• Coursework in introductory statistics beneficial, but not required
Days/ Hours
Flexible on start and end date,2- 4 days a week, 20-30 hours per week

Other information:
• Internships are paid $20/hr * unless requirements from school or grant of project prohibits pay
• The work environment is hybrid. Preference would be for interns to be on site in our Itasca office 40% of their internship time. Fully remote internships will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
• Interns must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to be onsite. Requests for a medical or religious accommodation regarding this vaccination can be submitted for consideration upon an offer of internship
