Assistant Professor, Teacher Education Gonzaga University’s School of Education in Spokane, WA invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program, in the Department of Teacher Education. The position involves teaching core and elective MA/TESOL and ELL Endorsement courses, supervising Thesis/Projects, advising and mentoring candidates one-on-one, and engaging candidates in meaningful community-based projects. The position is intended to develop the department during a period of growth with a new influx of international students and burgeoning interest in the K-12 English Language Learner endorsement. The MA/TESOL program at Gonzaga integrates theory and practice to build candidates’ knowledge of language and its use, and to explore the interrelationships of cultures, teaching methods and language acquisition. Faculty and students work collaboratively to explore innovations in learning and teaching. Hands-on, experiential projects and other field-based learning opportunities are an integral feature of the programs, preparing candidates to plan, teach, reflect, research and lead in schools and the community. TESOL Programs launched an ELL Endorsement Certificate program in 2023 for in-service K-12 teachers and is therefore particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in K-12 ELL teaching and teacher-training. While the position has a strong teaching and advising component, the successful candidate will have a clearly articulated research agenda and will be expected to produce high-quality research outputs as part of the regular reappointment, promotion, and tenure process. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in ethnographic and other qualitative methodologies. For information on our mission, please visit: https://www.gonzaga.edu/about/our-mission-jesuit-values/mission-statement Job Duties: • Teach 18 credits of undergraduate- and graduate-level courses on topics of teacher education during the academic year and potentially during the summer within our TESOL programs • Teach during the summer semester under a separate contract • Advise candidates, including guidance in completing capstone Thesis/Projects • Supervise students in field experiences, practicum teaching experiences, and graduate assistantships • Maintain and active research agenda and contribute to local, regional, national, and international professional journals and conferences • Collaborate with department, School of Education, and community partners • Stay current in the field by conducting research, reading academic materials, and/or attending conferences • Attend and contribute department and program meetings and other committees as needed Application To apply, please visit our website at www.gonzaga.edu/jobs. Minimum Qualifications: · Doctorate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related area completed or close to completion · Minimum of one year of teaching experience at the university level · Minimum of two years of EFL teaching experience abroad · Evidence of a clearly articulated research agenda in TESOL · Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences, and an investment in social justice, equity, and inclusion as evidenced by prior innovative and successful inclusive teaching strategies · Evidence of ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects and theses · Evidence of highly successful teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level in one or more of the following areas: Teacher Education (Elementary or Secondary), TESOL, Sociolinguistics · Demonstrated ability and interest in collaboration and community-engaged work, particularly with underrepresented and underserved communities · A record of professional accomplishments (publications, conference presentations, and active participation in professional organizations) and service · Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications, Qualities, and Credential: · Evidence of teaching and/or scholarship in two or more of the following areas: TESOL, Sociolinguistics, Language Acquisition, Course Design and Assessment, Instructional Technology, Indigenous Language Revitalization · Evidence of Graduate student advising and mentorship · Evidence of education administration (e.g., program director, chair, etc.) · Evidence of K-12 ELL teaching · Proficient knowledge of and/or literacy in a second or additional language. · Ethnographic/Qualitative Research record Contact Information
