The University of Washington Bothell Advancement team has an exciting opening for an Associate Vice Chancellor for Development. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Development is responsible for developing and leading the implementation of a comprehensive, campuswide fundraising program that inspires gifts of impact in support of the students, faculty and programs of UW Bothell. This position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor (VC) for Advancement, serving on the division’s senior leadership team and participating in the Chancellor’s campuswide leadership Cabinet.

The ideal candidate for this position will be an experienced leader with a demonstrated track record as a successful major-gift fundraiser, preferably in higher education or other complex organizations. They will also have significant experience in management and operations, including volunteer management, and will be passionate about advancing UW Bothell’s mission and vision.

What You Will Do:

Frontline Fundraising (45%)

•Serve as the campus’ lead fundraiser, including managing an individual portfolio of 50-75 major gift donors and prospects.
•Serve as the main liaison with central Advancement’s Principal Giving team for coordinated principal gifts or cross-unit solicitations.
•Lead audience development for fundraising events to ensure goals are achieved.
•Prepare, review and edit all materials needed to secure and steward significant gifts.
•Design and implement thoughtful and individualized stewardship plans for UW Bothell’s major donors to communicate impact and encourage continued philanthropic support.

Strategic Development Program Leadership & Planning (25%)

•In collaboration with the VC for Advancement, lead the development, execution and management of strategic short- and long-term goals for all fundraising activities, programs and campaigns at UW Bothell.
•Actively contribute to UW Bothell Advancement's collaborative spirit; as a member of the leadership team, ensure coordination of integrated advancement activities and leverage resources across UW Bothell Advancement to create the greatest impact.
•Generate new leads and qualify gift prospects from research, prospect tracking tools, the donor base, faculty networks and fundraising colleagues. Work with central UW Prospect Research teams regularly to strengthen UW Bothell’s prospect pool and donor pipeline.
•Regularly evaluate fundraising programs, assess progress toward goals and regularly report on results to the VC for Advancement and the Chancellor, among other campus leaders.
•Develop strong working relationships with the leadership of the five UW Bothell schools (School of Business, School of Educational Studies, School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, School of Nursing & Health Studies and School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) to develop fundraising plans. Build a strong fundraising culture with mutually beneficial relationships between the Deans and external audiences.
•Develop and manage comprehensive annual goals, an annual operational plan for fundraising/development and budget of $200k+.

Team Management (20%)

•Provide leadership and oversee the day-to-day operations of the development team. This includes annual, major/principal, corporate and foundation gifts and programs as well as donor recognition and stewardship.
•Mentor and lead frontline fundraising staff members on best practices, including written donor strategies, prioritization of frontline activities and the fundraising processes using Plus Delta (or other leading methodology) principles.
•Create an inclusive, energized work environment that makes UW Bothell a top choice for experienced advancement talent.

Board Partnership (5%)

•In partnership with the VC for Advancement, recruit members to the Chancellor’s Philanthropy Leadership Council and deploy members in mutually beneficial ways to advance the relationships and resources needed to reach UW Bothell’s philanthropic goals.
•Serve on the Chancellor’s Philanthropy Leadership Council as a non-voting member.

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

What You Can Expect:

•Must be able to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
•Frequent local travel expected and must be able to travel regionally and nationally when necessary.

Qualifications & Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree AND at least seven years of institutional development/advancement experience, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting major gifts.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:

•Proven ability to solicit and secure major gifts at a college, university or academic-affiliated foundation. Demonstrated success at major-gift fundraising and working knowledge of gift planning vehicles, including charitable trusts, gift annuities and complex outright gifts.
•Demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain corporate and foundation contacts.
•Demonstrated ability to improve organizational effectiveness by managing others and providing strategic positioning and leadership.
•Knowledge of general development/advancement policies and procedures, including use of development databases.
•Demonstrated experience working with volunteers and not-for-profit boards; proactively identifying opportunities to engage volunteers as ambassadors and stakeholders.
•Personnel and budget management experience or ability.
