At the State of Connecticut, Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO), our mission is to eliminate discrimination through civil and human rights law enforcement and to establish equal opportunity and justice for all persons within the state through advocacy and education.

We are currently recruiting for a Human Rights And Opportunities Trainee (HRO Trainee) in our Housing Discrimination Unit (HDU) unit located at 450 Columbus Boulevard in Hartford, CT. The HDU is responsible for processing and investigating all complaints of housing related discrimination filed with CHRO. Although HDU does not provide legal advice to the public, HDU staff is available to answer questions regarding the state and federal laws that protect against housing discrimination and the application of these laws.

Your role as a Human Rights And Opportunities Trainee
- This HRO Trainee position will be accountable for successfully completing a planned training program in civil rights law enforcement and investigative techniques while performing enforcement and investigative work with gradually increasing responsibility. This role will allow you to learn on the job and at the end of a two-year training program, you will have a target class of HRO Representative. The HDU monitors and enforces conciliation agreements if necessary, as well as conducting various audits to ensure compliance with the state and federal fair housing laws. HDU staff also participates in training and education and outreach activities.

Position Highlights
- Full-time, 40 Hours per week
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

- Incumbents in this class will be eligible for promotion to the target class of Human Rights and Opportunities Representative with out further competitive examination after successful completion of the two (2) year training program.
