RECREATION MANAGER (INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS)
Job Summary
The Manager of Interscholastic Athletics & Academics is responsible for supporting the large-scale operations of the Milwaukee Public Schools high school athletic and extracurricular academic programs. Primary responsibilities include leading the recruitment, training, assigning, and supervision of game officials and event staff personnel; coordinating athletic contest scheduling for 21 Milwaukee City Conference (MCC) high schools and 12 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) sponsored sports; assisting with event security logistics, as well as the development and implementation of instructional clinics and training sessions aimed at improving the skills and performance of staff and student-athletes.

This role provides a unique opportunity to positively impact high school athletics in Milwaukee Public Schools. The ideal candidate possesses a strong attention to detail and a successful history of managing diverse sports programs, with a focus on building a strong alliance with officials and essential support staff

Salary Range: $76,038 - $109,565

Responsibilities
Provides guidance and supervision to full and part-time staff to ensure fulfillment of job duties, responsibilities, and professional growth.
Completes game scheduling for more than 2,000 athletic contests per year.
Recruits, hires, supervises, and evaluates game officials and event staff.
Provides regular in-services and training for event staff.
Completes necessary paperwork and appropriate payroll approvals for more than one thousand staff.
Provides operational and program support to the Commissioner of Interscholastic Athletics & Academics.
Conducts regular site visits (weekday evenings & Saturday) to determine facility needs, program effectiveness and to provide evaluation feedback and support to part-time staff.
Serves as a resource for safety issues at interscholastic athletic contests.
Assists with the operation of large-scale athletic events.
Arranges for the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies as needed.
Monitors interscholastic athletic trends to enhance overall programming.
Facilitates training and certification for full and part-time event staff and officials.
Solicits sponsorships to support program operations.
Assists in preparing and coordinating promotional/marketing materials.
Evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs, and updates program content to ensure it is current and relevant to athletic needs.
Assists with Recreation Department activities as needed.
Serves on various community or department committees as required and/or assigned.
Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in sports management, recreation, education, or related field.
Minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible full-time experience in planning, implementing, and supervising interscholastic/recreational sports programs.
A minimum of one year of full-time experience with a master's degree will be considered.
National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Registered Athletic Administrator, or Certified Athletic Administrator certification preferred.
