Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), under the umbrella of the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Supervising Addiction Counselor (PCN 128306) to join our team. Using knowledge of substance use disorder counseling theory and practice to supervise lower-level counseling staff.
Ensuring patient centered treatment focus on both shifts.
Providing group therapies to assist with substance use disorders, mental health from a trauma informed perspective.

The Connecticut Valley Hospital boasts a rich history first opening its doors over 150 years ago in 1868. As the State’s public hospital we provide treatment of mental illness and currently comprised of 18 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). In our operational framework, recovery is defined as a process of restoring or developing a positive and meaningful sense of identity apart from one’s condition and then rebuilding one’s life in the fullest sense. Recovery is an individualized patient-centered approach. Achieving and maintaining an optimal state of health and wellness is integrated in our recovery approach. Individuals acquire and practice life skills that will assist them in their recovery process.

The mission of the Addictions Services Division is to work to stabilize, assist clients in develop coping skills, and help clients move into the recovery zone. In this role you will be working directly in our Merritt Hall 3 AB - Residential Rehabilitation Program. This 30-bed program offers structured and safe environment for persons in early stages of recovery. Program offers treatment for clients with co-occurring disorders and provides effective combination of medical, psychiatric, and counseling services to address clients’ individual needs based on their readiness to change. The program specializes in trauma informed/ gender responsive care and utilizes variety of evidence based clinical approaches and treatment modalities to provide holistic care. Clients are offered at a minimum 30 hours of treatment each week including individual, group and family counseling, recovery education, wellness therapies, peer support services, 12 step meetings and full range of Medication Assisted Treatment. The length of stay varies and is based on clients’ individual needs. Upon completion of treatment each client is connected to aftercare services either in residential or outpatient setting based on individual needs and preferences.
Qualifications & Requirements
Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and two (2) years experience at the level of Certified Addiction Counselor.

Certification as a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) by the Connecticut Certification Board may be substituted for the General Experience.

Incumbents in this class who are licensed must maintain licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
Incumbents in this class who are certified must maintain certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and certification as a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) by the Connecticut Certification Board.
Individuals recovering from addiction to alcohol or drugs are required to have two (2) years of substance free time to be considered for a position in a substance abuse program.
