Job Description
Assistant Professor, tenure track
The Department of Health Behavior and Health Equity (HBHE) at the University of Michigan is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member at the rank of assistant professor level. Individuals will have a doctoral degree in a health-related field such as public health, social work, social policy, urban planning, community psychology or other social science-related fields. The ideal person for the position is capable of teaching at the graduate level, has strong research skills and evidence of a research agenda that focuses on public health, healthcare, or related issues, using a health equity lens. With a start date of August 2025, the candidate must have a PhD by January 1, 2025.

We seek researchers with strong scholarly credentials and a record or promise of external research funding. The faculty member will be expected to teach in our leading master and doctorate programs, and possibly in the School of Public Health’s undergraduate program. HBHE is committed to the University of Michigan Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion plan and encourages applications from faculty of color and women at all ranks. We value diversity as a necessary part of success in all aspects of teaching, research, and leadership. We encourage candidates to highlight their experiences with DEI in their materials.

How to Apply: All applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a cover letter that address (or include as separate statements) research agenda, evidence of teaching excellence if available, and a statement about experience and commitment to diversity. We will ask for references and letters of recommendation at later stages of the process. All application materials must be submitted electronically via: apply.interfolio.com/153108

Consideration of applications will occur on a rolling basis. Applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by October 14, 2024, but applications will be considered until the position has been filled.

Background Screening: The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks will be performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

U-M EEO/AA Statement: The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
