Marriage and Family Therapist/Psychologist

Accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services, Azusa Pacific’s University Counseling Center (UCC) exists to empower students to realize their personal and academic potential by promoting psychological, social, and spiritual wellness through Christian counseling and outreach services.

The primary focus of this position is to provide a spectrum of counseling and outreach services to the Azusa Pacific University community. It is a full-time, 10-month (August 16th through June 15th) appointment with full benefits.

Required Education

Masters degree in clinical or counseling psychology or related field from an accredited institution.
Licensure to practice in the state of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist, or comparable license.
Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Azusa Pacific University.

Required Experience

Three years of counseling experience, university setting preferred. Previous experience providing brief individual therapy, facilitating therapeutic groups/workshops, providing crisis management, and referral coordination preferred.
Applicant should be a generalist with experience in at least some of the following: adjustment issues, family of origin concerns, treatment for anxiety and depression, addiction and substance abuse; urgent care support and consultation; providing counseling, prevention and outreach services to diverse populations; psychological assessment; faith integration/spiritual issues; supervision of practicum level trainees.
California license required.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

Provides individual, couples, and group counseling for a culturally diverse student population via teletherapy or in person as clinically indicated.
Attends and participates in clinical supervision group and staff meetings.
Provides crisis intervention and management.
Acts as an emotional wellness consultant for the university community.
Responsible for outreach and training, including educational workshops on various mental health topics.
Supports the university by attending various functions that are deemed appropriate for Counseling Center staff by the Director.
Provides supervision for practicum level trainees and/or interns.
Performs other duties related to the job as directed by the supervisor.

Skills

Knowledge of relevant ethical and legal parameters of professional practice.
Excellent communication skills, including strong command of grammar and writing skills.
Experience with electronic record keeping programs (ie: Medicat), preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook desirable.
Able to work independently and with little supervision, be proactive and take initiative. Actively seeks out opportunities for growth and professional development.
Demonstrates sensitivity and commitment to the unique needs of students experiencing mental health concerns.
Demonstrates respect, professionalism and consideration when dealing with students, faculty and staff.
Is in agreement with the Christian purpose of APU, demonstrates a mature Christian faith, and is in agreement with the APU Positional Statements.

Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
Able to navigate an electronic medical record keeping system, (ie: Medicat).

Compensation
Grade 12: $55,444.48 to $61,113.05 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
