Assistant Professor of Theatre (Acting) Assistant Professor of Theatre (Acting) Position Type: Tenure Stream Position Eclass: The School of Theatre at UNC Greensboro welcomes applications for an Assistant Professor of Theatre position beginning August 1st, 2025. Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The UNCG School of Theatre’s mission is to prepare students to be informed theatre practitioners with commitment to creativity, innovation, inclusion, and the advancement of the art form. The School recognizes the need to move toward creating an actively anti-racist and anti-biased space of creative practice by creating systemic change through workshops, continuing education, and professional development centered around anti-racist practices, theatrical intimacy, and bettering ourselves in service of our diverse and intersectional student body. Our community seeks candidates who are invested in creating communities of practice and care in which access is paramount. We have 17 full-time, professionally active faculty members who serve over 300 students in BA and BFA concentrations and in MFA programs in Design, Music Direction for Musical Theatre, and Theatre for Youth. The School mounts a yearly season of seven-to-eight plays and musicals, along with student-driven work and other types of performance opportunities. The School of Theatre is committed to creating and developing a diverse, engaged, artistically well-balanced body of future theatre professionals, performers, and teachers. Position Summary: The School of Theatre at UNC Greensboro invites applications from a diverse group of candidates who are experienced in advancing equity and inclusivity in their teaching and professional/creative practice for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning August 1, 2025. Review of applications will begin November 25, 2024, and continue until the position is filled. Responsibilities include: Teaching courses in acting for BFA and BA students. (Coursework, depending on candidate areas research and expertise, may include stage combat, acting for camera, musical theatre scene study, voice, movement, playscript analysis, devising, and new work development.) Advising students, assisting in student recruitment, and serving on departmental, college, and university committees. Minimum Qualifications: MFA in Theatre or equivalent professional experience. We are seeking candidates who excel in collaboration and communication and have professional networks that can connect classroom learning with real-world industry experiences. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ongoing professional experience. University-level teaching experience. Demonstrated experience in expanding acting methodologies beyond realism, incorporating diverse and innovative approaches to performance. Certification and/or demonstrated expertise in stage combat. Specialization in on-camera techniques, additionally, experience with cinematography and editing a plus. Experience directing plays, musicals, and/or film projects. Experience with new work development. Demonstrated experience in decolonizing coursework and implementing inclusive, identity conscious, and culturally sensitive teaching strategies. Evidence of experience with consent-based theatre practices and theatrical intimacy practices.
