Senior level IT Architect We are seeking a dynamic IT Architect with a focus on enhancing business intelligence capabilities to join our Business Analytics and System-Wide Initiatives Section (BASIS) team within the Research and Data Analysis Division (RDA) at the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). Our BASIS mission is to empower partners across the agency by transforming raw data into actionable insights, enabling effective data exploration and analysis to drive problem-solving, risk management, continuous improvement, and strategic decision-making. In this role, you will support the BASIS unit, which oversees the management, operation, and governance of Power BI infrastructure and business intelligence capabilities. Reporting to the BASIS Manager (IT Architect, Senior Manager), you will be responsible for developing and executing an IT roadmap to advance BI infrastructure, architecting and implementing innovative data analytics solutions, optimizing data interoperability, and coordinating data management needs across the BASIS team. We offer a flexible hybrid schedule, with one on-site workday per week, allowing you to work remotely on the remaining days. Some of what you’ll do: Design, develop, maintain, and manage an advanced Power BI infrastructure to support comprehensive data mapping and visualization capabilities across the department. Architect and implement Power BI Premium deployment pipelines, and version control using Git and Azure DevOps, and build enterprise-wide semantic data models to support scalable and efficient reporting solutions. Design and execute BI architectures that integrate business, application, infrastructure, and security perspectives, establishing a foundation for a future state enterprise BI strategy. Develop complex analyses, data extracts, and analytic databases to provide actionable insights for multiple programs and support data-driven decision-making. Lead the design, development, and maintenance of the department's data warehouse, leveraging on-premises and cloud-based technology as appropriate. Provide architectural guidance, training, and support to data users and business units working within the Data Repository system, empowering them to effectively interact with business intelligence tools. Identify opportunities for business process improvement using advanced BI technologies, focusing on enhancing data quality, availability, and continuous improvement across programs. Offer architectural leadership and strategic oversight, guiding the BASIS team in building a robust BI framework that supports data exploration, analysis, and insight generation across the organization. Who should apply? A bachelor’s degree includes 9 semester or 15 quarter hours of computer science courses AND seven years of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in IT analysis, system maintenance, troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing, or programming computer systems applications or databases. OR Eleven years of professional experience in consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in IT analysis, system maintenance, troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing, etc. The following required experience may have been obtained concurrently: Ten years of progressively responsible experience in a lead or management role is required due to the enterprise nature of assignments. This experience could be through the performance of direct supervisory functions for staff, direct management of contracted resources, or matrix management of staff resources for a project or similar endeavor. Ten years of experience managing, designing, or directing multiple large-scale enterprise IT architecture designs in the Information Technology areas. Five years or more of experience in creating and maintaining enterprise-level conceptual and logical data models. Five years of experience managing and supporting business process improvement and business intelligence initiatives. Three years of experience building Power BI Data Models and Reports. Three years of experience using iServer or similar Architecture Tool for Data Architecture Modeling. Preferred education, experience, or certification: Certification of enterprise architecture frameworks, such as FEAF, TOGAF, etc. Familiarity with the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge (BIZBOK) or similar discipline guides and certification from the Business Architecture Guild or similar professional organizations.
