Transportation Director DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT: Transportation TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months SALARY: Based on Bulloch County Schools salary/supplement schedule FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Business Services JOB CODE: 460 POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Transportation provides leadership, management and guidance to ensure the safe and effective transportation of students to and from school and school related activities. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED. At least five years of experience with transportation, logistics, school environment or similarly related field. Supervisory experience. CDL with S and P endorsement or eligible to obtain within six months of hire date. Experience working with a diverse group of people. Embodies the core values of the district; relational, purposeful, reflective, resourceful, courageous and accountable. Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential functions of the position. Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK(1). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field. Experience in a K-12 school district with transportation operations. Basic computer skills with Microsoft programs and Google Suite. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership to the Transportation department on day-to-day operations. Establishes and manages systems to ensure that Board owned vehicles, including buses, meet or exceed safety standards. Coordinates the district transportation training program, safety programs and student management programs. Manages random drug and alcohol testing. Ensures school system is compliant with DOT drug and alcohol testing. Investigates all accidents or hazardous situations and prepares appropriate reports/documentation. Serves as a liaison among transportation, district and school administrators. Disseminates information on bus schedules to employees and general public. Prepares annual budget. Prepares all State required reports. Adheres to and ensures practices and procedures are put into place to follow all federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies. Drives/rides buses as necessary. Performs other duties as requested. Ability to maintain composure and not compound a situation when interacting with persons who may be angry, demanding or otherwise less than polite. Independent Judgment: Ability to complete work tasks without being given precise directions relative to work steps or the final project. Organizational Skills: Ability to establish priorities, simultaneously manage multiple tasks; and deliver a quality work product by a designated deadline. Public Contact: Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues, parents, and other individuals within and external to the school system. Ability to demonstrate professionalism while interacting with others and to maintain constructive working relationships. Attendance and Dependability: Ability to report to work at the scheduled time and to seldom be absent from work. Demonstrate prompt and regular work attendance. Process appropriate paperwork to authorize absences in accordance with school system procedures. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious about work performance.
