Description

The Department of Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics invites applications for a full-time position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Cybersecurity.

This position will collaborate with the chair, associate dean, and dean to develop a new Bachelor’s in Cybersecurity program, as well as potentially a master’s program, building upon the department’s existing curriculum in computer science. This faculty member will instruct undergraduates in cybersecurity and computer science courses, will maintain an active research program, and will participate in student mentoring and advising. Qualified candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. The potential to develop an externally funded research program is preferred. Candidates must have a strong record of scholarly and professional achievements.

The Department of Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics is composed of eight full-time faculty, two part-time faculty, and various adjunct faculty. There are over 130 students seeking degrees in six majors and one master’s program: Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics, and MS in Applied Statistics and Data Science.

Responsibilities

Prepare and teach cybersecurity and computer science courses up to 12 units per semester.
Lead the design process for a new bachelor’s and potential master’s degree in cybersecurity, building upon the department’s existing computer science offerings.
Participate in mentoring and academic advising of students.
Participate in department and university affairs.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Integrate Christian faith in all aspects of instruction.
Level

Assistant or Associate Professor.
Qualifications

An earned Ph.D. in cybersecurity or computer science.
Desire to be available on campus to mentor students in their coursework and research.
A commitment to teaching excellence in an undergraduate, liberal arts program.
A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University (Faculty members are required to sign a “Statement of Faith,” available at http://www.apu.edu/about/believe and to adhere to the policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook.)
Experience

Evidence of teaching excellence is desired.
Prior experience mentoring undergraduate students in technical projects and research desired.
Prior experience in socially-responsible and meaningful projects desired.
Prior experience in integration of faith with the discipline is preferred.
Workload

Workload of 24 units per academic year is required. Typical workloads are 4 courses per semester, though some release may be given for program/course development and/or for research. The faculty will be working under the general direction of the Chair of the Department Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics.

Compensation

$68,640 to $125,460 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
Compensation will be based on experience, rank, and qualifications.
