Job Summary

The Dean of Learning and Instruction, based in the Peter Clark Center, translates promising research principles into practice, supporting instructional practices and professional growth both within Breck and across the broader field of education. This role drives educational excellence and innovation through leadership, collaboration, and a focus on student-centered, dynamic learning.

Key responsibilities include:

Instructional Facilitation: Help implement Breck’s Instructional Framework through supporting effective evidence-informed teaching strategies, professional development, and instructional coaching.

Project Management: Managing Breck's Dynamic Learner Program (DLP) in the Upper School and expanding its adoption in other schools. The program’s goal is to empower students to become effective, self-regulated (self-directed) learners who take an active role in managing their own learning processes. The DLP is a digital tool that supports metacognitive conversations between the student and advisor to develop a deep, personal understanding of how each student learns. Design onboarding process and materials to onboard new schools, interface with external organizations, and app development.

Content Creation: Contributing to the design, implementation, and communication of the PCC student curriculum (InSight, MindWorks, BrainAble) across the divisions.

Program Support: Support PCC student, faculty, and parent programming, including faculty book clubs, advisory programming, and parent and admissions events.

Mission Alignment: Supporting and promoting the school’s mission and culture.

Other Duties

Teach approximately 20% across divisions, providing a valuable connection to students, the community, and the culture of teaching and learning.

Qualification Requirements

Advanced degree preferred

5+ years cross-divisional teaching experience

Experience in program development and co-design with students, faculty, and school leaders

Strong understanding of current educational trends, research-informed practices, and assessment strategies

Experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion; Mind, Brain, and Education; and educational innovation

Passion for education and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.

Exceptional communication, collaboration, presentation, and organizational skills.

Established record of presenting in schools and at conferences

Desirable Qualifications

Work experience outside of schools

Entrepreneurial spirit

Experience with human-centered design and systems thinking
