Professional Practice Assistant Professor of Animal Sciences Position Description Our aim is to recruit, support, and retain a scholar in a 9-month professional practice position focused on classroom instruction. This is a non-tenure track, multi-year appointment eligible for renewal. The ideal candidate will establish an innovative teaching program to deliver animal sciences subject content at the introductory, intermediate, and/or upper level. Specific course assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department, but the successful candidate will have a deep understanding of animal sciences and its disciplines. The successful candidate will also be expected to adapt teaching methods to the needs of diverse learners and use existing and new technologies to deliver subject matter through both in-person and virtual formats. The range of duties will include contact hours with students in class, recitation, and/or laboratories, and additional commitment to course preparation, student office hours, team meetings, grading, etc. The incumbent will become an integral part of the undergraduate program of Animal Sciences and teach approved course of the curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a writing intensive course in the field of human/animal studies. Expertise in teaching courses in areas physiology, growth, nutrition, and/or livestock production would be favorable, and the successful candidate will be expected to advise undergraduate students in academic and career planning. Performance Objectives 1. Advance the practice of teaching through scholarship. 2. Contribute to the Department’s academic mission through the teaching of up to 18 credit hours of undergraduate courses per year. 3. Advise undergraduate students. 4. Demonstrate an ability to cultivate learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds, and commitment to enhancing diversity and inclusion within Animal Sciences and related professions. 5. Work collaboratively with university faculty, staff, and students to advance the land grant mission of the college and university. 6. Serve the department, college, university, and professional communities through committee work and other appropriate responsibilities and activities.
