Motor Vehicle Inspector Great work-life balance for Law Enforcement officers! Calling all Connecticut Law Enforcement Officers (POST-C Certified and recently retired Police Officers) to apply today for this unique and exciting opportunity! - Monday - Friday (8-hour schedule) between core business hours of 5 AM – 2 PM. A second shift schedule could be added in the future, but one is not currently offered. - Home-to-duty station scheduling with State vehicle, statewide travel required. - Voluntary overtime is available. - Hazardous duty retirement plan - Opportunity to receive retirement credit for eligible military or law enforcement service. - 13 paid State holidays - These are paid time off holidays and Motor Vehicle Inspectors are not required to work. - Current POST-C Certified candidates do not need to re-attend the Police Academy. - Ongoing professional training & career specialization available. - Clothing and shoe allowances, along with other union negotiated benefits. *May require occasional work on weekends or evenings if emergency situations arise. *Comparative lateral officers may be considered. ABOUT US The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Commercial Vehicle Safety Division (CVSD) is a professional team dedicated to commercial vehicle safety, consumer protection, and statewide highway enforcement. CVSD is a specialized law enforcement Division and DMV Motor Vehicle Inspectors are sworn Connecticut Police Officers with jurisdiction across the state. DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO Expand Your Skills with Specialized Training: Ongoing training prevents burnout and keeps work diverse (School Bus, HAZMAT, Motorcoach, Tanker inspections, and more). Rotate Through Specialized Units: Each assignment offers different challenges and investigative focus, helping officers avoid the repetition common in patrol-only roles (Subject to all conditions in the Protective Services (NP-5) Bargaining Unit contract including transfer guidelines, biennial shift and work location bid process - Protective Services (NP-5) Union Contract). Specialized Units: Patrol Units – Provide statewide traffic enforcement, conduct post-crash commercial vehicle investigations, and operate at fixed and virtual weigh/inspection stations. They also manage Commercial Truck Complaints and assist state/local police. Dealer & Towing Investigations – Inspect and investigate motor vehicle dealers, repair facilities, and towing companies; handle licensing issues, consumer complaints, and fraud cases. Safety Audit Unit – Conduct audits, provide education and outreach to motor carriers, and enforce federal and state commercial vehicle regulations. Auto Theft & Title Fraud Investigations – Investigate cloned VINs, title fraud, and recover stolen vehicles, targeting individuals attempting to register stolen out-of-state vehicles. School Bus & Student Transportation Unit – Inspect all school buses and student transportation vehicles across Connecticut to ensure safety standards are met. Training: Newly hired Motor Vehicle Inspectors are required to successfully complete and maintain the North American Standard Inspection (NASTI) certification. This training program is for two (2) weeks and could be out of state depending on training program availability. Motor Vehicle Inspectors will also be required to complete twelve (12) weeks of field training. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Certification as a law enforcement officer in the State of Connecticut pursuant to regulations promulgated by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council. NOTE: Candidates with a pending recertification status may be employed on a temporary basis pending recertification by the Connecticut Police Training Academy.
