About   (request update)

It is a pleasure to introduce myself to the HBCU Connect Family. I am originally from New Jersey but have called Florida home for more than 20 years. I attended Morgan State University after high school and completed my studies at Bethune-Cookman College (now University). I am the proud mother of four children.

In 2004, I was the first in my mothers’ family to graduate from college. It was then, as it now, my greatest accomplishment. However, the journey to and through college was a difficult one. Out of this experience and with a strong desire to help the next generation of high school graduates, The College Bound Project was born.

Prior to the inception of The College Bound Project I worked in recreation, developing youth programs that often targeted at risk populations and as a high school Social Studies teacher.

Claim To Fame:
The College Bound Project (formerly known as Legacy 105) was founded for the purpose of helping deserving, young people prepare for and earn admission to college. The mission of The College Bound Project is to provide limited-income, first generation and underrepresented students with the academic enrichment, social supports and life skills necessary to enroll, excel and graduate from a four-year college. Our goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of background, is afforded the opportunity to make informed decisions about their college and career goals. I work with children who live in housing projects, who are in foster care, children who are in transition (considered precariously housed/homeless), children who are first generation Americans and the list goes on. There are few “typical stories” in the students that I serve. Since its inception in 2010, The College Bound Project has provided free college preparatory services and support to more than 400 middle and high school students through our after-school, summer enrichment and college programs. We currently have 67 students enrolled in college and are expecting to celebrate our first graduates in 2015. This year we will be expanding our services to include students in the private school sector who more often than not receive little to no career and college counseling services. My life’s work is the work I do with young people. There is nothing more rewarding than to see a young person go from believing nothing is possible to nothing is impossible. I am committed to developing a college access program in as many disadvantaged communities as possible. My greatest wish is that every student who desires to pursue higher education is provided with the support and services necessary to make their dream of a college education a reality.
I currently work with The College Bound Project as Founder & Executive Director
I have years of experience working in the Teaching / K-12 Education industry.
